Latest Check-Ins

Nice calm campground, everybody gets their own palapa (if you want one)
toilets+showers new
50qu/pp + entrance of the park you have to pay it before entering.
best experience to sleep there and start at 6:00am to see the ruins (still not that hot and not many people)

Report Check-In

Good camp ground with clean new toilets and shower block.
No generator noise and completely quiet at night except for jungle noise.

Make sure to get your wristband from the Checkpoint on the left of the roundabout before going to the campsite (right at the roundabout and left a little way through the car park, it's signed). I didn't have mine yet and the man at the baño almost didn't let me in! Baños are now at the back on the left hand side as you look from the entrance - currently no signs.

Palapas are really good and spacious for tents/hammocks.

Not a lot of hard ground for parking vans in case it rains, but we are 2WD and managed to get out fine after a day's rain, wouldn't have wanted to have tried if it was any soggier!
The comedor on site in the middle of the souvenir stalls was good for people watching and a coffee, food was priced for where you are.

Definitely go into the site in the morning first thing, it's beautiful. The wristband is for all day so we went first thing, came out for lunch and a rest then back in for sun set and left site after that.

I can recommend camping here - lots of wildlife directly at the campsite (toucans, monkeys,...) and seeing the ruins at 6am is great. They also have now really nice new flush toilets and showers (did not try). still 50gtq

Report Check-In

Campsite is under renovation and that was really needed. Old baños already closed and new one not yet ready. But campsite is open !!
Think renovation with new baños and palapas will be ready around December 2023.
No generator noise anymore, think Tikal is now connected to the grid.
Campsite still a very good option when you want to enter Tikal very early in the morning.

Sorry, guys, what are you complaining about? Area is spacious, lots of grass and trees for shade, toilets will be opened if you need them, just advise the caretaker (very helpful and friendly) , a number of tents were also put up, you are very close to the entrance of the site - you pay 50Q pP - so what? We've seen more expensive and far less agreeable sites! Howler monkeys making noise at night - great! You are in an area designed to protect wildlife, so enjoy and welcome what is crawling about here. Sure, having to pay six times what locals pay sucks - the other side of the coin is that locals are much poorer than us travellers, so the low price for them makes them able to come into contact with their own history.
To sum it up: good choice to stay here before visiting the site, not cheap, but acceptable.

Mixed feelings about this place. It's perfect to have an early morning visit of Tikal. Went in at 6am next day and it was great, but 150q/p entrance and 50q/p camping. They close the toilets at night and we were even asked if we have a toilet in our van, because they close the toilets and otherwise you are technically not allowed to stay. Really weird. Next time we would probably try the jaguar inn.
No cellservice and you have to buy the tickets at the entrance of the road some kilometers before this place. Bring your ID;)

We slept here in order to visit the ruins of Tikal early the next morning to avoid the crowds and the heat.
Large grassed area with access to toilets and cold showers. 50 GTQ per person, children under 10 do not pay.

Q50 to rent a hammock with mosquito netting. Under a palapa. (Don’t forget to get the camping ticket as well for another Q50).

Perfect for what it is. Just such a cool experience to sleep at Tikal. With the jungle noises and moonlight. Perfect if you plan on doing the sunrise tour (which you should).

Some friendly shop keepers and comedors around in the evening, but I’d just bring your own food as theirs is probably a little expensive.

As other descriptions say. Quiet place very close to the entrance to the archaeological site. A lot of space for parking. Try to sleep away from the power plant to avoid hearing the noisy sound. Quiet and fresh night, only us and another camping couple. There is no cell signal from any company only the Wi-Fi standard in the large restaurant next to the souvenirs. Jaguar Inn has Wi-Fi but will cost you extra money if you're not a guest. Bathrooms and showers relatively fine but not so compared to the costs the night is. There is no light in the bathrooms. Remember to buy the Tikal and the camping tickets at the main entrance 17km back. Security guard says you have one month to use the ticket you bought. But of course it's one use only, we bought it to camp the day we arrived and go to visit Tikal next day.

Report Check-In

This campground is spacious and next to each Palapa will fit any size RV. In comparison with Jaguar Inn this place has:

only cold shower
dirty toilets
no light at night
no electricity
no chairs or tables

Camping permit 50Q pp has to be bought 17km down the road

Report Check-In

50Q per person to camp here, you can drive your car onto the camping area. Area with trees (and howler monkeys in the morning). You buy your camping permit at the very entrance to the park (17km removed from the campsite) so make sure to mention that you want to camp and buy your permission the camp. We arrived in the morning, parked the car, visited Tikal all day, stayed overnight and left the next day around 9am.

Running water, cold showers and bathrooms. There's a restaurant (comedor Tikal) right next to the campsite which is open until 8 or 9 pm to buy drinks or eat something.

Report Check-In

An OK Place to spend the night before visiting the ruins. Still 50 q per person which is overpriced for what you get (bit old bathrooms without light, cold showers, flushing toilets). Toilet paper is provided. We tent camped under one of the palapas close to a noisy generator, but it stopped at 20 PM. We had a quiet night and heard howler monkeys in the dusk. Friendly staff who watched our bicycles the next day while we were visiting the ruins.
The food at the small shack at the entrance of the camping area looked good and should be reasonable priced.
There is another camping option at one of the hotels, but we didn't checked it out.

Report Check-In

Stayed for one night. Left all my stuff while I went to the ruins. No problem. Left at 2pm. Still have to buy it on the entrance. They closed the bathrooms during the night. Don't know if I would bothered the caretaker if he would open them. Caretaker was super nice and friendly thought. The sites are pitch dark at night but for tents the palapas keep everything cool during the whole day

Report Check-In

Big grassy field and very nice caretaker but completely overpriced for what you get: 50 quetzal per person for bathrooms without light and cold showers. No generator noise during or stay, though. We didn't read about Jaguar Inn beforehand (didn't see the listing because it is too close to this one in the iOverlander map), otherwise we would probably have stayed there.

Report Check-In

nice campground, found a huge shady tree away from the polapas and generators. The howler monkeys were amazing this am, maybe they were in our huge tree, love the jungle! staff friendly and helpful. This is as close to the entrance as any of the other hotels here except the Jaguar Inn is just past the guard shack ;-) We talked to the guards at the enterance gate and had no problems, bought one ticket after 3:30 camped that night inside and enjoyed the park the next day and camped one more night and left the next morning. Even better lets say we went off the beaten path and enjoyed the sunset and sunrise tours (Q30 or less) without a guild and even more... "Just work it out with the guards," Talk to the guy that runs the campground he may be helpful :-)

Report Check-In

Nice place. We paid 100 Q for two people. When you arrive at the entrance after 3 p.m. (NOT 4 p.m. as earlier stated) you don´t have to pay for the current day.
After having visited the ruins it is a good idea to leave the National Park the same day. Otherwise you have to pay the entrance fee to the park (150 Quetzales p.p.) also for the following day. It is a good idea to drive about 35 km back to the Hotel-Restaurant El Muelle at Lake Petén Itza. They have a small trailer park, a very popular restaurant and a nice swimming pool. They charge 100 Q for two people. If you eat in the restaurant, the use of the pool is free.

Report Check-In

- 50Q per person
- showers, flushing toilets
- no electricity, no light, no wifi
- palapas available
- a bit noise from the people leaving for the 4 am. sunrise tour and later from howler monkeys
- generally nice place
- you have to pay the entrance to the park (150Q per person) at the gate - if you arrive before 16:00, you have to pay for two days
- they check the time it takes you to get from the gate to the actual park and calculate the speed it took you - you are supposed to drive 45 kph max. We drove faster but we didn't get any trouble for it, but maybe just because fluent Spanish speakers were with us,
- no pets allowed in the park and in the camping, they check for them at the gate
