perfect spot! frogs and monkeys ! we didn't swim because of the mud but the place really worst it

Report Check-In

It was Easter Week when we stayed so very busy and incredibly noisy thanks to the Enduro track and the motorbikes. There’s a loo and you can take walks or go for a swim. Great location but avoid if it’s a weekend or public holiday as you won’t get any sleep!

Passamos 2 noites nesse lugar. É simplesmente incrível! Fica em frente ao lago, muito tranquilo e isolado. Apenas algumas pessoas passam diariamente, tiram algumas fotos e vão embora. Nenhuma facilidade por perto. Sinal 4G da Liberty.

We spent 2 nights at this place. It's simply incredible! It is in front of the lake, very quiet and isolated. Only a few people pass by daily, take a few photos and leave. No facilities nearby. Liberty 4G signal.

Beautiful park with a great view over the lake. Easy access to the main house, behind only 4x4. There is a lot going on around the house with locals swimming in the lake, further back (4x4 only) it is quieter. There is a shower/toilet house, but it probably hasn't been serviced for years, so we didn't use it.
Light wind throughout, which makes the heat bearable.

Easy access on paved road with gravel, grass and in rainy season lots of mud around the park itself. You do need 4WD to go deep in the back where locals did not go the night we were here. We parked our 2WD Promaster van close by the building on hard ground and saw lots of people come and go. You can find a spot suitable for you. The views are lovely and swimming in the lake is a great plus for us.

We spent 2 nights at the end of the peninsula (4x4 recommended), the place is nice. The WE there are a lot of people who come to enjoy this park. The view of the lake is wonderful and you can also swim there. In the morning we hear howler monkeys and many birds. Very good 4G reception with Liberty.

We spent one night here just relaxing, walking in the park and reading in our hammock. There are “showers “ but I wasn’t desperate enough to use one. There were about 10 bats hanging on the wall above the shower and one stall had mushrooms growing out of the concrete. The ick factor was just too high for me but my husband used it twice- no problem. The toilets are in better condition than you’d expect given the use that this park gets by locals teens and rev heads on their motorcycles. The park itself is very clean and the views over the lake are very pretty. You can walk to town from here but it’s a steep uphill past the German Bakery ( good bread but very expensive! $2500 colones for 1/2 loaf of multigrain bread and same price for a brownie. )
This was a nice quiet stay.

Beautiful place to spend the night -Free WC and Free Showers available. Came here during the week - very quiet night. Accessible by car - 4x4 only needed if you plan on going further down past the WC and showers. We stayed at the end of the peninsula and spent a peaceful morning surrounded by trees and chirping birds.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon. Was very busy with locals but everyone left around sunset. Arrived during a heavy rain and our AWD definitely came in handy. Very muddy. Continue as far down as you can for more beautiful spots away from the crowd. We slept very peacefully. Stayed two nights.

Watch out for bats in the showers! 🦇 Not sure if they carry rabies in Costa Rica, but bats are known to be primary carriers of rabies… and you often can’t feel a bite from a bat because their teeth are so small.

DON'T COME HERE ON A FRIDAY NIGHT, loud music, large gatherings of youths and motorcycle rev heads make it impossible to sleep

Report Check-In

The main description is somewhat misleading, and this should be classified as a wild campspot.

Amazing sunset.

Dirt bikes and motorboats before sunset, and some people also came to the spot to watch the sunset. So it can get busy and loud but once that’s over, it’s a great spot. Fantastic spot.
At this exact spot there are no facilities but we saw toilets just 100m away. We don’t know if they’re open and/or working.

Report Check-In

We spent 2 nights there. A lot of people come in the evening and music can be loud but they didn't stay long so our nights were rather quiet. Awesome morning by the lake.

I would like to clarify for future users that this pin is the same park as the "unlimited parking" pin nearby. the bathrooms near the entrance have cold showers but 2 of the 3 days we were there the water was turned off. you can park up by the "clubhouse" bathroom area(the first pin), but this place is heavily used by locals and tourists and so expect a lot of traffic at all hours. if you don't mind being away from the bathrooms, keep fallowing the road towards (this pin) the peninsula to get away from the crowds and a better view. the road looks intimidating but a lowered Honda civic made it out here so anyone can. several cars come by during the day to swim in the lake and locals walk their dogs, but very quiet otherwise.

Report Check-In

As described. There are cars that come and go I to the wee hours of the night but it didn’t bother us. More busy here on the weekends. A local told us there is some petty theft here, so don’t leave anything outside and don’t leave your van parked here unattended. Otherwise it’s great!

Very nice place by the lake. Easy access.water available.
Very quite at night.
Not to be missed.

Report Check-In

As described, we there have past one night with one 24 feet, very calm, very beautiful view on the lake, superb place.

Report Check-In

We had a great time, might be hard to find a flat spot with solid ground for big rigs unless you park in one of the dock ramp turn around spots like we did that some guy used on one of the three days we were there, and even though we moved as far to the side as we could and he still was able to make his manuver he still had something to say, I just ignored him.

This is actually the same place like „Park at the lake Arenal“ from 2011 which is a huge recreation area! Entrance is at 10.53823, -84.89365

Free! really really muddy! We stayed on the concrete near the bathrooms which were open all night with shower. Lake is beautiful and if you're brave enough to attempt the invisible mud the camp spots are on the water. Walking distance to a little town with restaurants. Locals party there kind of late was our issue. Really had everything you want in a free camp except wifi....

Report Check-In

Most beautiful spot around. Were told by locals we could "do wht we want" here. So camping must be ok :-) Grassy. Directly at the lake. Close to town.

Great spot on the public beach of Lago Arenal, no facilities but tap water available. We stayed there 5 days, great for relaxing!

Nice quiet spot on the lake. We did stop at the German Bakery for a fatty cake. Do yourself a favor, load up on food and water before hitting this town. Supermarket is mucho expensive.
