Gisa Pyramids and Sphinx Entrance | Tourist Attraction

Visiting the pyramids needs a bit of planning to be able to enjoy it.

The one most important advice: Come as early as possible! You will avoid the crowds, the air is still nice and fresh, and all the hasslers haven’t arrived yet.

The gates open at 7am in the morning during summer. We were the first ones to enter the area and had the pyramids to ourselves for the first couple of hours.

Buy your ticket online before you arrive to avoid ticket scams at the gate (check Google Maps)

Ignore everyone and everything. Scammers will tell you, that the specific gate you chose only opens later/doesn‘t open at all, and you have to take their taxi to the other entrance. This is all a lie, of course. Be patient, stay friendly and hold your ground. This is Egypt. Gates will open not 7am sharp, but a few minutes later.

If you’re reasonably fit, avoid the camel herders/donkey cart riders/taxi drivers. Distances are not that far, you can easily walk around the whole compound to the far end. Going alone certainly gives you way more flexibility to snap photos. It helps to take advantage of the cooler morning air.

Note, that there are no „prohibited“ areas. You are free to move around the whole area and towards the desert, even if camel herders might claim otherwise. Just ignore them, they didn’t persist in our case.

Even around the pyramids themselves you can walk up to the very base. The only one obvious rule is, that you are not allowed to climb the pyramids themselves.

If you’re keen on photography, choose the Sphinx gate. Walk up to the Great Pyramid, then immediately head south through open area towards the 9 Pyramids lounge. This will ensure, that you have the sun coming from the right direction. The lounge will only open at 9am. Nobody will hassle you if you hang around at this time plus you‘ll get the classic shot of camels before pyramids, when all the herders drive up their camels at around 8am to the „official“ viewpoint (which you can skip, unless you want to do the touristy thing and get on a camel).

walk up the hill to the official ticket office, ignoring all the hagglers and scammers.

Drive to here from the North, entrance to whole area is 160 pounds. Vehicle is only 5 pounds and you can drive right in close to everything .
they searched my car and found knives for cooking which was a big ordeal. In the end I left them at the x-Ray at the entrance and got them on the way out.
Individual pyramids cost more to enter.
