Description

This hotel welcomes overlanders! You can park and pitch for FREE, and use a bathroom with cold shower accessible with a key. Very kind hosts! Located in the center of Brazzaville, close to many useful embassies.
No problem with dogs now. Not sure if free camping still an option.

Overlanders are NOT welcome! We had to rent a room for 50,000 CFA to be able to use the toilet and shower, and then we would have had to stand in front of a loud diesel generator.

Hippocampe is well located. Standard AC rooms with warm showers cost from 25,000cfa - negotiable. The Terrasse restaurant is pretty fancy, more so than standard rooms. Food is excellent. There's secure parking too, though big rigs would be a squeeze. Lebanese management is friendly and helpful.

Bring a mosquito net! Lots of mosquitos in my room last night despite having the air conditioner on full blast.

New owner since 2020 and the covid crisis, who is asking 10.000fcfa per night per car, to stay in the parking lot. We didnt stay, looks like noisy.

Hotel Hippocampe is a very beautiful and overlanderfriendly place, centrally located in Brazzaville. We stayed for 5 days in a very nice and clean room and met many other overlanders. The owner Olivier is a great
person and helps with any type of information.
Also very friendly staff. We can definitely recommend this place.

Great location and Oliver is really generous in letting us all stay for free! (Also a good place to 'bump into' others!)

We parked here for a few days but didn't eat in the restaurant so can't comment on the food. We did however drink in the bar (beer 2000cfa, can of pepsi-light 2000cfa, bottle of Top-orange 1500cfa) and make extensive use of the WiFi (reasonable and free!)

We stayed 4 days. Olivier is great. You still can stay for free with access to cold shower. Don't forget to sign in a travelers book and take a look for others who posted since more than 10 years!

Stayed there for 2 nights. 28‘000 CFA per night for a very nice and clean room. Restaurant is good but quite expensive.

Report Check-In

No more reasonable Vietnamese food here, sorry to say. The Restaurant has moved to more upscale French influence. Single 'deluxe ' room 28k Breakfast extra. Still free camping.

While we didn't stay here, it was our first port of call in Brazzaville. Great food (the Pho is legitimate) and just a sympathetic staff that know what you need after being in the road. The owner Olivier is a super nice guy and offered us the space out back to camp and facilities. If you are in a budget it is fine it not glamorous. I stole away for a siesta in the treehouse also which was great after lunch.
We got good information here about the safety situation with the rebels and roads in the direction of Boko for crossing into the DRC.
Also make sure you check out the guestbooks. Some great info, inspiration and characters in there.

very central location. very nice owner and very helpful staff. But not a beatiful carpark to Camp.

Hippocampe great place, but if you need to put a tent up it maybe a struggle as the area designated is full of rubbish, but if you are in a vehicle all is good.

This hotel welcomes overlanders since ages! You can park and pitch for free, and use a bathroom with cold shower accessible with a key. Very kind hosts! Located in the center of Brazzaville, close to many useful embassies. Oh, and they have an excellent Vietnamese/Asian restaurant with very reasonable prices! Bringing pets is not a problem, but when we were here there were 3 dogs, from which one was aggressive against our dog. We just kept ours inside whenever the other ones were unlocked.
