Description

Great beach for well-equipped 4x4 only. Awesome snorkeling, Mobula Rays going nuts offshore.

You can reach the parking area in a 2wd promaster and walk 2 min to the shore from there. Access is best from the town of El Cardonal.

Very nice beach. Constantly visited by locals.
4x4 needed to access the beach. Very soft sand.
Good for snorkeling.
Sand can get VERY hot! Bring water shoes or a good pair of sandals.

First and foremost: No Driving on the Beach. Sign in plain site. Unfortunately that does not stop people from doing it.

This place gets good reviews as a day beach but not so much for camping. The beach gets regular visitors during the day for snorkeling and other beach day fun.

With that being said, the beach can get a bit dirty with people not cleaning up properly when they leave. Left over food thrown on the sand and other general trash.

For camping, there really are no level spots to pitch a tent in a protected area. You will be out in the open and under the sun, so plan accordingly if pitching a tent on the beach.

There is a very disgusting area that people have turned into a public bathroom. There is literally human waste and toilet paper all throughout what I have dubbed “sh*t alley”. There is even a chair with a cutout that has been left behind for people to use. So disgusting and sad that people do not know or follow proper etiquette when “going” in the wild.

Good place to spend the day, but not so great for camping if you are looking to be secluded or protected.

One of our favorite beaches in Baja so far! Per the comment below we decided to drive north along the paved Los Barilles-Santa Teresa road to the town of El Cardonal then take the sandy washboard (but very manageable) road to the beach. We made it in our 2wd Promaster. Parking is sandy and there’s really only one level spot but it was a great one! You aren’t directly on the water (sand is very soft) but you can definitely see and hear the water. This morning we saw over 30 dolphins swimming and jumping off shore from our van.

Great snorkeling on the south end. Oddly enough there is also perfect cell signal on the south end but there isn’t up by the parking area. It’s only a 5 minute walk! I suspect the house nearby must have a booster.

Time your visit right so you’re there when there are minimal winds for better snorkeling. Not totally isolated spot - several snow birds show up in ATVs - but everyone was chill and we never felt crowded.

Wow
This place is stunning. A few people around through the day and completely alone after 4pm.
Pros: Excellent scenery, beach, snorkelling and tide pools. Also, 4G reception if you need it.
Cons: the drive from Los Barilles was about the max I’d do in our truck camper setup. Very steep in sections and bumpy. We heard the road in from El Coronado is way better so that’s the route we’ll take out.
Also, not many level spots to camp without going into the deep sand.
Overall a great place and we’ll definitely return here again. (But, from the other direction)

some friends brought us here, such a beautiful amazing place. just make sure you take the highway and not the Google directions. ( the road is rough if you don't have 4 wheel drive.

Nice and quiet place, beautiful water for a swim or snorkeling. Road is bumpy and in some sections steep but we made it without any problem with our IVECO daily 4x4 RV.

Report Check-In

The spot is really cool for snorkeling and the tide pools are fun to explore. No need for 4x4 or high clearance really, even a sedan could do this road it’s just bumpy. The beach would require airing down unless you have 4x4 but DONT DRIVE ON THE BEACH. There’s a sign that says not to, plain as day, saying this is a turtle nesting ground. So while you may be tempted to get that sick camping spot for all the Instagram likes, don’t be a Richard and crush the sea turtle eggs. Just because the dinguses in atvs do it doesn’t make it right.

That being said, the area before the sign isn’t an amazing camp spot but not horrible. We also have good cell service here with Verizon and ATT.

TIDE POOLS AND OCTOPI. Just the beach needs 4WD. The road is best managed with high clearance

Sandy beach with great shells and amazing snorkeling. Hotel next door has good food though not particularly cheap. Got windy, but not unlivable. Camped right on the sand in our 4x4 truck camper. This beach is called Playa Palo Blanquito and also is good for kayaking when calm.

Deep sand and very busy at times. Good spot for a day trip.
