Venezuela
Lovely rugged 4x4 drive to get here. You will need a high clearance vehicle with low range 4x4! The place was empty but can get crowded during local holidays. e.g. Christmas and January. The river camp has thatched indigenous huts and a new toilet facilities have been built. We gave a small donation to the care taking Pemón. From Kavanayén it's only 20kms or so, but can take you a few hours.

Although the camp has been abandoned, it’s still a nice grassy field next to the river. The newly built toilets from 2016 are still as good as new… minus the doors and water. The road to this place has unfortunately also been abandoned, high clearance and low gears required, there are no recent car tracks to follow, so your lines wisely. But the drive is definately worth it if your vehicle is up to the task, epic track in between the Tepuy! Be careful for the last few hundred meters down to the campamento, it’s narrow with no way to turn around and there is 1 point where the sideslope is pretty extreme due to erosion. It’s only 5 meters or so, but we saw 27Deg on our inclinometer… make sure you have fresh underwear ready! It might be nice to actually not go down to the campamento and camp up the hill for better views. The Karauy waterfall is pretty nice! There is a indigeneous village across the river.
Report Check-InIf you like to test your 4x4 high clearance vehicle, this is the road to do it! Spectacular!
Facilities at the campground not very well maintained.
