Latest Check-Ins

Attempted to visit here for a second time, hoping it had reopened since my last attempt 20 months ago. From what I can gather it isn't in fact closed closed, but it's also not trivial to visit. They sent me down to the Ingenio Pantaleon (some 10kn away, I've marked it separately), where I was asked to call somebody who explained that permission has to be sought 3 days in advance in order to visit. You can email idavila@pantaleon to ask for this. As I understand it you then still need to visit the Pantaleon (which from the smell of it is the new sugar processing plant, it's huge, you can't miss it!) to collect the permission - though perhaps you'll be lucky and they'll email it to you.. As for whether the museum is worth the hassle to see it, I've no idea - I don't have 3 days available to wait for the permission and see!

museum still closed because of COVID, guess will not open again soon. the guard told I could not even get in the farm property. I had to camp on the side of the road. Don't recommend for the moment

I must believe allavan. They are there I'm not.

But I do hope this is a misunderstanding and the hopefully the closure is just Covid-19 related.

The staff here are so friendly and hospitable.

I stayed back in Feb and asked to hang my hammock in the trees. No problem. When the bird songs woke me the armed guard was sat 50m away. He had watched over me the whole night. Clean bathrooms. Super friendly. Supervisors showed a map of the dig area and explained when the sugar is cut they can excavate for new finds. The finds are washed in the old mill, catalogued and put on display. Also old mill artifacts like the trains.

PS: Don't go to the old Mill toilets! Follow the chain on the right side of the image that has the building in the distance. past the trees I slept under on the right. Then turn right at the end of the building where the trees end.

We arrived around 11pm and the guards were so welcoming! They even gave us a tour of the museum with a flash light. Really really interesting to see such old artifacts just out in the open like that.

Super musée. Nous avons pu dormir sur place car nous sommes arrivés tard. Nuit et musée gratuit. Hyper tranquille. Possibilité de recharger en eau douce mais elle est marron. Big rigs aucun problème. ils acceptent aussi les tentes.

We did not stay here, but on request it would have been possible. Guarded area with toilet facilities and all. Will probably nothing or not much more cost. The visit of the cool mask museum is also free!
