They fixed it right up and charged us about $15us. The facilities are very modern and the staff really knowledgeable. I tend to do all my own mechanic work and am pretty picky about the way things are done. These guys were more efficient and more honest than most mechanics in the States. I was impressed with the facility and staff, so asked about getting an alignment. They told me I'd have to remove the camper, but that it would be no problem. Then, because this place is legit, they checked out my front end on the spot, to be sure there was nothing wrong that was causing our truck to pull to the left. I watched them check tie rods and ball joints in exactly the same way I would do it and we all came to the conclusion that I had two bad lower ball joints. They were able to get the parts the next day (good MOOG ball joints, the same thing I'd install at home) and parts, labor, +alignment would only be $500bzd ($250 US, much cheaper than the US). We scheduled for the next day (Because it's stupid hot and doing ball joints without a lift, press, or air tools in a gravel parking lot didn't sound fun to me at all..) and the parts were there just as promised. However, the guy scheduled to do the work double checked the ball joints and found they tightened up with a good greasing. We all decided they didn't actually need replaced, so they just did the alignment for us instead. Great, lazer alignment equipment with guys who know how to use it. The truck tracks perfectly now and I'll be sure to grease the ball joints more. If you need tires or any mechanic work done at all, stop in and give these guys a try. They seem to do everything from oil changes to anything tire/alignment related. Not sure about engine work, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do the basics. In our experience they're very honest, very professional, and they really know their stuff. Also, the waiting room is air conditioned and they have WiFi.. It doesnt seem to be private property. No one around. You are not visible. Just a place to spend the night but you are actually right at the waters edge and can swim, water brownish though. Actually there is a nicer spot at the beginning of the dirt road, we just drove further north since it was very windy and this spot is more protected. Big grassy area for camping. Very simple cold showers. Nice enough womens toilet with flush and zink with water. Mens only pissoir! A little traffic along the road but nothing disturbing. A little unsure about official price. When we showed up in the afternoon the guy in charge told us that if we didnt pitch a tent the whole family could spend the night for 5 US (10BZ). When we showed up at night the owner was there and he was obviously not happy about the price. He wanted 5 US for each of the adults and the children could go for free. Was very nice though and of course we should only pay the 5 US when that was the original agreement. I guess the real price is 5 US (10 BZ) pr person. Or maybe the owner just felt bad that 3 older children camped for free and if I arrived as a couple I would ask for camping for 5 US in total. I think thats possible. Almost sure that this is also a great spot for free camping. We didnt sleep though since we arrived at noon. Would consider it as safe. Right at the lake. Same spot as locals living on the other side of the lake use as lancha stop. Bus arrives a couple of times a day to/from main road bringing locals to/from lake. Nothing else around and you are not visible from anywhere. Except when bus arrives. Locals seem very nice. Along the main road you pass a sign saying Lago Petexbatun. From there it is about a 20 min drive to the lakeshore. When you arrive at the small village turn right and after a couple of minutes drive there is a deviation on the left hand side. No sign. But there is a black plastic garbage container as indicator. If you are around at the time of the bus arrival local lancha owners will be able to take you to the Aguacete ruins. They asked us for 300 Q for 5 persons. Supposedly entrance to ruins is free. We didnt go though since it was extremely hot! They charge 25 BZD per 24 h secure parking, but as we got back we found our car unlocked. Someone was inside, searched everything and stole - congratulations - a shitty vacuum cleaner. Luckily, all our real left valuables were hidden or stored in locked cupboards, and obviously there was not enough time to open them. The ferry company's reaction was sketchy, as there was no broken window or broken lock they tried to give us the blame. The police was friendly, they told about regular break-ins into cars in the harbour district using some kind of wires or hooks to unlock the doors. We got at least the parking fee back (with help of the police), but the company itself, especially the manager, was not really interested, there was no apology or something like "oh, we need to improve the security"... not recommended!
