A lovely place in the desert. Scenic, Desert, Sand - just beautiful!
A small but good visible track leads from the Road into the desert. You can too go deeper into the desert, we did stay early, because we are late (we had to optain a new frontscreen in Nouakchot).
Don`t use light, otherwise you probably get scouted by the army like we did,
Read our Travelblog about this day (using google Translate)
There is no traffic at evening, no idea how deep and far you can follow the track.
We guess it was an Hotel some years ago, with a pool. Pool and Hotel are out of order.
But now there are some Bungalow style huts for rent.
For a small fee they will let you camp there, use one of the toilet/shower of a Bungalow for a small fee. They are "ok".
The fishers will detect that there are travelers, and offer you the catch of the day, help you too to prepare the fish.
It is a pretty huge area with an guards, you will find a spot with enough privacy.
A restaurant is there too and a pretty nice beach.
A good place to stay for repairs, for visiting the city and enjoy fresh fish & beach.
We got a new Frontscreen at Nouakchott at the black market mounted in 3.5 hours, after Toyota told us they need 60 days for shipping a new one, and 45 days for flying in a spare...
This is the official Border. If you come from the north, try to be here at the early afternoon.
The Border will close at 5pm. If you are late - stay in the line!! You can wild camp there, it has too a nice restaurant. It is an experience, you will meet many people. At 9pm there is a long long waiting line - and you will need at least 3 hours to cross this border.
At the early afternoon you just can drive through - consider that in your plans.

**Beware scammer advising route as impassable, this is a lie to get you to the Rosso border and ferry where they will assist and ask for payment.**
You can take this well paved road for 30km of nicely paved road to where it turns to dirt in Keur Macane, it is then a fairly nice dirt road to Diama. May be muddy in wet season but in the dry it was perfect. Heavy corrugations. I did this on a moto but there were plenty of cars too. Beware of warthogs running from behind bushes.
This will save you going all the way to Rosso and then to Diama
Don't go to the other campsite shown next door...they have no real facilities and couldn't offer us a toilet if camping. The owner here is Haj, a Mauritanian educated in the states and speaks great English. Toilets, showers and bar & restaurant right on the beach, as is the camping. security is good. very friendly, helpful staff. we were a little unsure of camping in Noukchat before we arrived, but definitely landed on our feet finding this place. Price is 2,500pp per night. highly recommend this place.
Beautiful spot on the bay. facilities are basic, although they have a great restaurant, stunning food and super friendly. view is stunning across the bay with flamingoes and birds. small kite surfing & wind surfing community here. windy so perfect spot if you are keen on either sport. cost was 2000 Ouigiya per night for 2 people and 1 4x4.
Flat ground next to the sea light - probabely It was local football field before. A bit noisy in night because of ships passing by to port. Otherwise perfect. It is in walking distance to port where at 5pm starts drive the longest train in the world.
Lovely and quiet in micro village. Off the main road. We have stopped next to local village (3 tents ) because we drive with campers but if someone has 4x4 easily can drive to field from third picture wich is just on the right
