"The best driving road in the world" - words from the Top Gear. Amazing drive, altitude around 2000km, interesting history of the road and a beautiful sunset. The road is only open during the summer, roughly around july-september, best to check online before so there is no snow.
Busy during the day, to enjoy some driving it's best to go early morning or before sunset. Free camping along the road.
Our favourite road in Romania. Stunning drive, almost no traffic compared to more famous Transfagarasan. South of Obârşia Lotrului very good paved road, to the north some parts were still gravel (2014), but worth it.
Extremely picturesque, great to drive, many options to wild camp - almost anywhere by the road, just take your pick.
Went here just our of curiosity, there is a huge lake / dam. Near to beautiful national park Bucegi.
Some beautiful freshly built paved roads(with some gravel ones too) on the road from Sinaia to here, almost completely deserted - met about 3 other cars. Go to the area if you like exploring :)
Established campsite. Set in lovely grounds. Great food at onsite restaurant. Bar. €15 on suite cabin.Campsite/ cottages/ restaurant Donaris: 15 euro, all facilities, extremely noisy during weekend (all night, no sleep!) on grass, clean showers.
Camping Casa Alba: in forest or on tarmac, all facilities, walking distance to mall with supermarket (Carrefour). 22 euro. Can be very busy (groups), but this time it was quiet. Hot water to do dishes (no cooking facilities), hot showers. One of the guys at the reception is a bit strange; don't pay too much attention to him.
The biggest asset of this campground is the location near Bran castle. The disadvantage (especially in high season): it's cramped and visited by large camper groups that think they own the campground and act accordingly. If possible chose a site between hedges so they won't hook up 1 meter from your site. Price: around 16 euro without electricity in high season.
A nice little Campground with a perfect few.
Very nice owners and setting. Easy to access
You decide what you pay if you sleep there in a car.
Hot showers, fridge, electricity, Internet (wifi)
close to one of the famous wooden churches.
we camped at this nice place which you can access in 2 ways: cross the small river (ca. 20cm deep) or drive around and access from above. We did the crossing which was easy.
The place is close to the street but not visible. There are 2 fire pits and a lot of wood around. The river is only a few meters away. Quiet at night, tent friendly, no other amenities.
45 Romanian Lieu per person per night for us as two people, two motorcycles and a tent. Good wifi in camping area. Bathrooms are clean and plenty of hot water. Area to do dishes. There is electrical connections. And area for laundry including washer and dryer. It is mostly camping in an open grass field but there are some spots for shade.
Menu pricing. 15 lei per night per person and 5 per night per tent. No charge for the motorcycles. They have small cabins as well. Lots of hot water and clean bathrooms. There is a kitchen to use as well as inside and outside common hangout areas. There is a pond. Great owners. There is a refrigerator you can use as well. Great place. There is s place for charging items in the common area
Forget about the other options on Transfargarasan!
We found this place when we walked up to the viewpoint with the cross on its Top. If you have good weather, you can wake up in the morning with a view of 100+ Km's
To find it, turn off the main road at the parking lot and drive towards cabana balea lac. just before you would turn right to park in front of the cabana, take the small bumpy dirtroad on the left up towards the viewpoint. On the right of the viewpoint is a little platform where we camped. It sais that you can only camp here, if you pay parking. We asked in the Cabana and they said that someone will come and charge us (15Lp.P.), which didn't happen.
It's windy up there, so bring warm clothes for the evening.
Restaurant available in Cabana Balea Lac I
Wifi in Restaurant (pw:123456789),
Toilets in Restaurant!
A quiet Campground, run by germans. Hot showers, fast wifi and lots of level spots. 2 People and a van:54 Lei
Has everything that you would expect from a campground
15 Minutes by car to Sibiu, 3 Minutes to the local village with a fortress and a church as sightseeing-options!
On a ridge overlooking the town. Large grassy field. There was a wedding event here the night we stayed so a bit noisy. Basic facilites. Electricity next to parking lot but wedding tent there. Fine for a night.
A must visit campsite! Specially for families. A great and relax place to spend some days and experience de rural life of Romania. The owners are very kind people and think on everything to make your stay special, comfortable, and to make you get in touch with the local culture. They really think in the small details that make the difference. We really recommend.
