Kaisosi Lodge and Campground

Lovely grassy sites with private toilet/shower and braai. Great swimming pool. N$165 for adults and N$95 per child under 12. Boat cruises available. Self service laundromat on site. Bar and kiosk selling ice creams etc. Can pay by credit card. Big rig friendly.

Namwi Island Campsite

Immaculately clean, shady campsites right on the rivers edge. Swimming pool. N$150pppn, kids 5 & under free, half price 6-12 years. Conveniently close to Katima especially if waiting for Covid tests.

kristall kellerei

Pulled in to do some wine tasting as we were intrigued. Although gates open and sign says they are open, they are clearly closed and have no wine for sale or tasting.

Nam Oysters

Small office in the port area where you can buy fresh, unshucked oysters. Call ahead to place your order.

Bushman's Desert Camp (Sossus on foot)

Great campsite, friendly and knowledgeable hosts. NAD180pppn. Campsites have private facilities. Spectacular scenery. Some oryx visited the waterhole. Kid friendly with small jungle gym. Big rig friendly. Do a tour if you get the chance.

Rest Stop Campsite

As described, a gravel rest stop under a tree about 1km from the C27 junction. No cars passed at all. Nice sunset and sunrise views. Good option for a night.

Mesem Bay

Lovely spot to camp! Suitable for big rigs. Saw brown hyaena and seals. We were lucky to have no wind so wind protection wasn’t an issue for us.

Orange River

Great bushcamp, and another option just 300m further towards Luderitz which is suitable for big rigs. Easy access to the river. Trees and shrubs to give a bit of wind protection. Heading east it’s about the last option before the restricted diamond mining area.

Félix Unite

Amazing pool, great location right by the river. Not so keen on independent overlanders, but we were able to stay. Cabanas are lovely (used them previously). Expensive (NAD245pppn) but a very nice stop off point. Can be very busy with rafting school groups and overland trucks. Nice restaurant and bar area.

Highlanders

Great campsite, the perfect stop on the N7 between Cape Town and the Nam border. Built by an overlander, for overlanders. Super friendly and helpful owner, Sparky. Shady, grassy campsites. Lovely swimming pool. Braai pit with wood available for sale. Wine tasting. Big rig friendly.

Glen Reenen Campsite

Spectacular views from the campsites and great bar for hiking trails. Half the campsite is closed at the moment, only powered sites available. Campsite is next to the main road but traffic pretty much non existent after dark so no noise issues at all. Clean ablutions with all the facilities including an oven in the kitchen and washing machines and dryers. Interesting info about the area at the interpretation centre at reception. Small shop. Kids play area. Construction still ongoing at Dinosaur centre (has been going on for years), some noise from staff but no big machinery.

Meiringskloof

Beautiful campsite in a stunning location. R350 per night for 2 adults + 2 kids. Big rig friendly for some sites. Limited cellphone reception and ok wifi at the site we had (K21). Great walks available up to lava tunnels and San paintings. Only one other camper there when we stayed (June), and only a couple of people staying in the cabins, but could get very busy on weekends in season. Big outdoor swimming pool which would be nice in summer, and small kids play area.

Wagon Wheel Country Lodge

Gravel campsite at the rear of the lodge. Close to the N1 and the train line so don’t expect a quiet night, but a convenient stop over if you need one on the Joburg side of Beaufort West. Nice ablutions including a bath.

Moreson River cottages and campsites

Nice campsite on river’s edge. Private ablutions for each campsite, basic but serviceable. Lots of shade. Super helpful owner, Pieter +27 (0)72 436 9377. R300 for the site (2 adults + 2 kids & overland truck). Sites 16 & 15 accessible for big trucks, 14 & 13 would also work.

Noukrans Boskamp

Wonderful grassy campsite under the oaks. Super friendly and welcoming hosts. Peaceful and tranquil. No cellphone reception. Great fresh milk, butter and bread available for sale. Ice and wood also available for sale.

Brakkeduine 4x4 Camp

Nice grassy campsite with plenty of shade. Simple ablutions. Small swimming pool. Accessible for big rigs. Braais provided. Need to book in advance. R350 for 2 adults + 2 kids

Sitrusoewer River Camp

Lovely riverside camp / caravan park. Accessible for all vehicles including big rigs. Neat ablutions and kitchen area. Lapa available for campers. Firewood available for sale at R30/bag. Pet friendly. Many sites on the river, some set back from the river. Canoes available to use and can swim in the river.
