It’s close for camping now.

August 22nd, 2021 Recanto Renascer

25 reais pp. big place for tents and RV. Electricity outlets, potable water, hot shower. Kitchen with stove and fridge (no utensils , though). Can be really crowded on weekends, but the owners do not allow music, so after 10 it’ll be pretty quiet. Amazing view to the mountains (Marumbi and Paraná complex), AMAZING river to swim with a nice stream and cristal water, good spots to place tents by the river, nice wildlife and birds. Nice owners (wagner and Djuli)

November 1st, 2020 Cerrado State Park

State park containing the last remains of the cerrado bioma in the south of Brazil.
2 small trails. One to a beautiful fall and another (4km back n forth) to a mirador of the river between cerrado forest.
Open on wed to sundays and holidays. Free.
Big parking lot but not sure if possible to spend the night.
Small structured house with clean bathrooms and rangers.

March 23rd, 2019 Posto Shell km35

Spent a good and quiet night in this Shell fuel station. Felt safe. There were one or two other trucks here. They have showers but we didnt try them. Toilets closed at night, but open early in the morning.
The fuel station at Santana do Livramento was too busy, noisy and too close to the highway (we’re in a roof top tent), so we decided to come a little further and we found this place

March 14th, 2019 Parador e Camping Calle 11

Very calm spot (on weekdays, probably not on weekends).
Spent 2 nights here, only a few cars came in the evening, probably for some love making.
There are electric plugs and the place is very well lit and well maintained. Didn’t see too much garbage around.
Beautiful Neuquen river is just beside you.
Didn’t use the toilets in the shop, which was open during the day until 19:30h.

March 14th, 2019 Bodega Del Fin Del Mundo

Here you can visit the big and famous Bodega del Fin del Mundo.
The biggest bodega in Neuquen province.
The visit coasts 140 pesos pp and it takes around 1 hour with wine tasting in the end (plenty of wine- we tasted around 6 wines and there were even more, but we got pretty drunk already so we didnt try). The price you pay for the tour can be reverted into wine on the store.
The attention and the staff are really nice.
The wine prices are better than in the supermarkets (see photo), so it’s worth the visit.

March 14th, 2019 Bodega Familia Schroeder (Saurus)

Here you can have lunch, visit, taste and buy Schroeder wines. The visit takes about 1 hour and costs 140 pesos that can be reverted into wine in the store. Tasty tasting in the end. Lots of wines.
They found dinosaur bones while constructing this bodega, that’s why they have the Saurus wine. You can see the original bones on Proyecto Dino (on iOverlander).
They have good prices when buying kits or many bottles (see photos)

March 14th, 2019 Laundry Lavisec

Paid 160 washing + drying for a big basket.
Very good service

March 13th, 2019 Proyecto Dino

Amazing visit and amazing place. We had a 3 hours tour (just the 2 of us). The guide is a paleonthologist and is really excited to show you everything and explain every detail about the geology of the place. It was a field visit and we were on the excavation sites, where we could see in-progress works, still partially buried bones and petrified tree roots. Also we visited the laboratory where they clean and study the fossiles. In the end, we visited the museum, where you can see many of the original fossiles and you can even hold some of them, including carnivore teeth, eggs, etc.
Foreigner price is 500 pesos per person.
Two tours per day: 10h and 17h. No reservation needed.
There is also a day tour where you can participate on the excavation process (check on their website to see prices and reservation). Looks cool too.
Really worth the money, and it incentivates the development of the project. They currently don’t have government support, nor any other kind of incomes. Their studies come from the entrance tickets and a few rare private companies support.

March 12th, 2019 Camping El Cisne

Very calm spot. We were on a week day.
But we found the bathrooms were too far from the camping area, also the electric plugs were the flat, 3-holes ones, not the usual american round double holes (get prepared for that if you need electricity).
Paid 500 pesos for 2 persons and a car.

March 7th, 2019 playa quento

There is a big sign that says it’s forbidden to camp here. So we didn’t stay

March 5th, 2019 Camping Miramar

The owner works until 18h, only then he comes home. But you can open the gate and install yourself, or ask on the front house if it’s ok to get inside. That’s the owner’s brother house. There are cameras here, so the owner will know if anybody arrives.

Nice place. Simple, but it’s got everything you need. Good for tents and big rigs.
Good internet, electricity on the camping area, cooking shelter for rainy days, simple but good toilets. Hot showers.
The owner is very kind.
Still 4000 per person. Good price

January 16th, 2019 Laundry 5asec

Corrected the location.
220 pesos per load (3 or 4 kg maximum)
Very unfriendly. We had 5kg and the lady insisted that we had to do 2 loads. Nonsense.
So we went somewhere else

January 6th, 2019 Camping Circulo Policial

I wasn't able to find this place.

January 6th, 2019 Chacra Saldia

Paid 200 per person.
Pros: common room with heating where you can have shelter and have your meals.
Hot showers

Cons: normally, no water in the toilets and showers. You have to use the owner’s toilet.
Not much wind protection on camping area
Useless internet
During the night, lots of young people rented the common room for a party. So, probably there will always be loud music on weekends. Impossible to sleep.
We do not recommend this place.

January 4th, 2019 SurGas Rio Gallegos (Fill Bottles)

Filled our peruvian bottle (with argentine adaptor). 275 pesos for 5kg. Super fast service

December 5th, 2018 Posto Túlio - Figueiras

Great overnight stay. The most quiet station we have ever been. Just park on the far end of the truck stop, near the trees. Safe, saw many trucker families sleeping here. If you fill your tank you get a free shower. Otherwise, 10 reais to shower. Free wifi at the restaurant and 24h clean toilets. They have a big water filter where you can get water

December 5th, 2018 Top Aventura

Loja de produtos de camping, trekking e pesca

October 4th, 2018 Puma Energy

This place no longer exists. We saw somenthing under construction

September 29th, 2018 La Casa de la Piedra Pintada

Nice camping spot on the parking lot next to the ancient paintings. Quite sheltered from the wind as there are rocks around. Super quiet, didnt see anybody. No facilities. Lots of cow poo and maybe pumas. Saw some dead animals around. Need to be cautious during the night :)
Bring your trash away and leave no trace!

August 15th, 2018 El Shincal de Quimivil

Depending on the hour, there are shorter (45 min) or longer (1h30) tours. Price for foreigner is 120 pesos.
At 12h there is a short tour.
At 14h there is a long tour.

August 15th, 2018 Check for Road Conditions when going North

If coming from the south, check conditions here before going north.
We came from the north (august), and could not cross from Cono de Arita (near Tolar Grande) to Antofalla because there was a lot of snow (on both roads!).
Even the road from Antofagasta to Antofalla may have snow.
We also could not go from Antofagasta to Antofalla via Quebrada de Calalaste because there was literally a frozen river on the road. We could only cross via the Quebrada del Diablo, which seems to be a worse and bumpier road, but is more used by locals and tourists.

August 15th, 2018 Casa de Piedra Alojamiento

This is a great place to rest for a few days if you need a break from the road, staying in a small calm village like Antofagasta. The price was 450 pesos per person (low season), but we bargained for 760 pesos for both of us.
It’s a small private apart-hotel/cabaña, clean, well equiped with a kitchen, refrigerator, gas stove (with working oven), wood burning stove (they provided us wood, great for the cold weather), hot shower and hot water on the taps. There are some despensas around to buy veggies, wine and other stuff you need. No wifi, but Claro coverage

August 15th, 2018 Camping Cotelbe (Municipal)

Entered the camping by the side road. Gates were open, but no one was there.
Thousands of dogs barking during the night, but not so bad (better than in SUMMERWIND-Ecuador).
Didn’t have to pay, so free at this time of year. Hot shower during the morning.
But it seemed they were pumping the water from the pools, which were green, stinky and slimy.

August 15th, 2018 Antofagasta de la Sierra

It’s not so easy to find fuel when coming from the north (although we found it in Tolar Grande). This is a Refinor normal fuel station.
Paid 39 pesos per litre of gasoline (usual price was 34 pesos on other places). There is a shop on the corner that also sells fuel, maybe worth to check if the price is better.
Not sure if they accept credit card.

August 15th, 2018 Mi Refugia Panaderia Artesanal

Good coffee, but only sweet options. We had a piece of pie that had a huge hard hair (pelo) in it, that didn’t look like a human hair. Looked like a dog hair, really. Which I do not doubt, since there were about 3 thousand dogs barking all night long around the campground.

August 7th, 2018 Giant Fruits + Veggies Market

Opening hours: monday to friday 6h-11h/18h-21h
Saturday: 6h-12h/18h-21h30

August 7th, 2018 Windshield repairing

If you too get hit by a rock and your windshield gets a little cracked, clean the crack immediately and place a silver tape or something to prevent the crack from getting dirty.
Then come to this guy. He is always on the corner of the streets Sarmiento and Santiago del Estero (see pic). It’s a white pickup saying “arreglo parabrisas”.
He injects a resin, so the crack stabilizes and doesn’t expand anymore.
We paid 700 pesos

August 6th, 2018 Combustible in Tolar Grande

If you need gasoline or diesel, they sell it here. Paid 35 pesos per litre of gasoline. If nobody is around you can ask in the Municipalidad, or in the tourist information building (centro integración urbana), or just ask around.
