20 kms on the road to Oruro lies Tarapaya. Pass the village on your right side, take the narrow bridge on the left side that crosses a stream and follow 'laguna'. At the top is a great thermal bath of 35 degrees and is a lovely camping spot. Price: 40 *bolivianos* (2 persons and car)

December 1st, 2009 Hotel Oberland

This is a well-known place for overlanders to camp in the parking lot. Use of shower, swimming pool and WIFI included in the price. From here regular minibuses go downtown La Paz (or take a taxi). Price: 50 *bolivianos* per person per night (including vehicle). Only car parking B15 / night.

December 1st, 2009 Eco Hotel Ituaba

Border with Brazil (Guajara Mirim, Rondônia). Good spot for camping at the terrain of eco hotel Ituaba with a very friendly owner. Located 3 kms outside town towards Riberalta.

Lovely spot for rough camping, well hidden from the road thanks to high bushes.

. Spent the night in the parking lot. This is also the place to arrange a stay at the Cristalino Jungle Lodge.

October 1st, 2009 Rondon Telegraph

Restored Rondon Telegraph Station 20 kms south of Campo Verde, at Asentamento Capim Branco. Nicely restored building and now housing a museum about Rondon and his telegraph lines. Next to is a good spot for camping, underneath an enormous mango orchard.

October 1st, 2009 Balneário Praia do Chiquito

Balneário Praia do Chiquito lies at 7 kms from downtown Novo Xavantino and is run by the friendly Vivian. Beautiful spot during weekdays. Probably crowded during weekends and holidays. Now it was quiet and lovely. Showers, river and BBQ.

Quiet night at huge Petrobras petrol station. Around the city are several beaches and balneários (recreational areas). One is east of the city (no name) and normally only used during the weekends. We arrived Sunday and good spend the night at stay on Monday. Pleasantly crazy place on Sunday and paradise on Monday. Silence, birds, swimming pool, showers.

Petrol station Midia Moto is clean and has cold showers. Located a few streets from downtown.

September 1st, 2009 Prainha wild camp

Spent the night at Prainha, two kms west of town. This beach along the river has showers and toilets but is normally only open on weekends. Check with the Prefeitura if it is possible to stay here on weekdays. We greatly enjoyed this quiet spot.

Possible at large Shell petrol station, west of town. Other option is to pay a bit (R$25 for 2 persons and car) to park at the parking lot of Village Hotel on Avenida São Luiz 1399, on the eastside of the city. It has WIFI, swimming pool and extensive breakfast buffet included in the price.

July 1st, 2009 Santo Antônio de Leveger, Praia da Vereda

When it's too hot in Cuiabá, this is a good alternative. River and beach. During the day it may be busy with day tourists from Cuiabá (25 kms) but it was quiet at night.

On the east side of the river, on a small field. Quiet night.

In the port Porto Geral, next to the large building. There is a guard at night. Quiet place.

Situated in the heart of the Pantanal, about halfway between Corumbá and Coxim.

For small vehicles only: with authorization from Hotel Mato Grosso (Rua Commandanta Costa 2522) we were allowed to park in the car park across the street. Had to leave before 7am though. Quiet place.

Another awesome rough camp, between the flamingos.

Along the long lake you'll see a small building to can change clothes. It's adjacent to a wonderful thermal bath. Perfect place for rough camping.

August 1st, 2007 Salar de Uyuni, Volcano Tunupa

Village Colquesa. Beautiful place to spend the night. Walk up to the volcano or watch flamingos.

August 1st, 2007 Salar de Uyuni, Isla Pescado

20 kms northwest of Ihla Inca Huasi. Fantastic spot for rough camping. During the day maybe 2 or 3 tour-cars stop by but during the evening we had the place to ourselves.

August 1st, 2007 Mina Candelaria

About 70 kms northwest of Tupiza (towards Uyuni). Quiet place, friendly custodian of the mine who let us camp here.

August 1st, 2007 Hotel El Torre

Spent the night at the lovely, friendly, clean Hotel El Torre (price around 70 *bolivianos* for double room). The first time we were in Tupiza, we parked in the same street and slept in the car. It was a quiet night and without any problems.

A few kms north of the city, at a YPF petrol station. Quiet place, toilet and cold shower.
