Gwaing River Resort

Neat and tidy, level grassed sites, electricity, 180 degrees sea view, drinking water taps, washing basins and washing lines. Cellphone signal available.

You have access to the Gwaing river mouth going down a steep road. Beautiful scenery.

Was previously called Aqua Eden Camp but now managed by George Manucipality. We were pleasantly surprised.

R178 pd per site. Card facilities available. The Supervisor lives on site.

Coney Glen Wildcamp

Google maps take you a level too high. Follow the beach sign to get to this spot. We didn't stay but it looks good. Two security cameras present.

Willowmore Caravan Park

Surprisingly ok, private owned caravan park. Neat private ablutions and security is good. R140pp.
They also have a few self catering units. R350pp.

Truksvygrivier

It is not really a camp but they have space for you to park and they have a nice little ablution facility with hot water. We paid R200 for 2 people. They also provide wood for a braai and have a communal kitchen.

We were lucky to find the family here over a weekend but there is a foreman here called Kerneels (I think it's his name 🤔) and he will assist you. If you can't find him just call the number on the gate. Very friendly people.

They also have a little cement dam with clean water to swim in.

Ps. Other self catering accommodation is aslo available.

Peperboom Campsite and Wild camping

We parked our truck at the Peperboom campsite. It's a bushcamp next to a stream/river on a working farm but you are far away from the farming activities.

They have 3 sites all with water and power plug-in. Very neat ablutions with a basin to wash dishes at the back of the ablutions.
R250 per campsite max 4 people. It includes one bag of wood and a portable braai. Phone signal weak but you can manage. Koot and Jannie are very friendly.

This seems to be the best camp in the area.

The campsite also have a cabin called Peperboom loghouse with it's own toilet and basin. Very neat. R450pn for 2.
There's also a permanent tent with a double bed R350pn. Mattresses for children.

Tierklip is a self catering farmhouse 20km from the camp site and is available for bigger groups. Max 16 people. R800 for the first 4 people and R200 for every extra person.

Reedsdell farm

This is a working farm that hosts big adventure events. Their ablutions are designed to cater for big groups so only cold showers are available for individual campers. The owner did say that he plans to install a gas water heater at some stage.
The facilities are neat and tidy and you have a beautiful view. The owners are Chris and Cath. R100pp including wifi.

Rhodes Hotel

Local farmers bought the Hotel recently and will open officially end 2020 but they still accommodate visitors.

Sandra is very friendly and kindly offered us a room to shower in. We supported her by having a few drinks at her bar.

Vrederus Wild Trout

Correction. The farmers name is Donie not Danie.

Rhodes Camping Ground

The manucipal camp ground looks neat but there was no water at the time. Something to do with a paid meter. Key and payment at Walkabouts.
We slept at the end by the Rhodes Hotel and they kindly offered us a room to shower in.

Vrederus Wild Trout

Vrederus is a working sheep and cattle farm. They offer fly fishing in the dam infront of the two self catering cottages.

They don't advertise camping but do welcome campers and overlanders. We used one of the cottage shower and toilet and also plugged into power in the cottage. The outside tap has clean water available from a nearby spring.
There's no signal but they do offer wifi

Juan-Marie and Danie Naude are great hosts and took us for sight seeing on the farm.

Cederberg Guest Farm

Peaceful, can walk around, warm water and wifi. Power extension can be used to get power from the main building and a few power points are available at the campsite amongs the trees. Continue straight through the second gate to get to reception and the camp area.

Cederberg Guest Farm

Still the same. Just want to add that wifi is also available. Very peaceful.

Lazy Moose Restaurant and Lodge

I made a mistake. This place is called Lazy Moose. I will try and correct 🙈

Bushwillow caravan park

Beautiful level grass stands with electricity and water. Forest in the background with Samango monkeys. Hike available to a very high waterfall. R125 pp out of season and R150 pp in season. Washing machine and dryer on premises, R15 per wash.

Lazy Moose Restaurant and Lodge

Very nice restaurant. Great views, friendly staff and delicious food. Gate overlander friendly. Opened recently.

Victoria Falls Backpackers Lodge

Love this place. Only stayed one night in town by Victoria Rest camp but moved here because too expensive, sand camp, etc. There are four parking type sites for camps where the care is required. They are longer then usual parking with dividers, a table, powerpoint and washingline each. Grassy shaded areas for tents only near the rooms. A lot of thought has gone into the layout and basically everything else. Stylish and clean with a beautiful pool. You can enjoy your food and drinks anywhere on the property. We parked on one of the 3 normal parkings inside and plugged in by the craft workshop. You can buy econet airtime or data from Blessings. They have a "fish spa" nibbling on your feet as a free activity. They fireplace and grill area are packed and ready to light if required everyday for free. Shuttle available. 3$ per trip to town. Dont miss the free feeding of the vultures everyday at 13:00 at Victoria Safari Hotel. It's 1km walk. Ask reception about the shortcut (path). Clean hummocks and relax areas everywhere. Etc etc etc. $10pp for camping. A few currencies accepted. Cash only.

Puma gas station

NB. Correction on my previous post. It is not by PUMA but at the fuel station next door that you can pay by card. PUMA cash only.

Puma gas station

You can pay by card but you pay first for as much fuel you want in order to make sure the card work. Then you fill up.

Wanderers Backpackers And Camping

As per all the comments before. Cash only. Meet all overlander's needs and is affordable. Walking distance 1.7km to a big Mall. Facilities nothing fancy but kept super clean by Brian. Never seen someone clean so thoroughly. Santorini restaurant accross the street. Stayed here in the week and over weekend. No excessive noise. Drinkable water tap by the first camp/stand. Clothes washing by washing machine done for K25 per load. We first missed the entry. The name on the wall is obscured by a tree especially if you turning from the main road. No bell. Just give a quick hoot /honk. Or lift the steel flap by the pedestrian gate, which is part of the main gate. Slide the lock open and you can walk through.

Endrone Fuel at Rufunsa

Good and honest service. We paid with a VISA card but I'm sure any card will be ok. Petrol and Diesel available. The attendant stop us to inform us that they accidentally let the transaction through twice. They refunded us in cash. Very friendly.

Mama Rula's

Some feedback after my previous entry. Was not so peaceful after all. The people living there constantly hoot impatiently for someone to come open the gate all the time. It is very annoying. Showers doesn't drain but water is hot. Cleaning of toilets isn't a huge priority. Food is tasty but didn't like that they put chicken skin and everything else of a chicken on the chicken pizza. Quite fine for an overnight stay and the best option around. Stayed 3 nights and never met anyone except the barman.

Nice spot behind the road.

This whole area is now fenced and electrified around the forest.
