Lubricentro Nico

Very good and heblpful. Everything for changing oil!

Border Control exit Uruguay

Border crossing works again in both directions.
Very fast, friendly and efficient staff.
No issues with cancellation of extended “Corona” TIP.

Gualeguaychu, Argentina to Fray Bentos, Uruguay

450 UYU or 1000 ARS
So better to have some ARS.

But make sure to have UYU for Uruguay road fee. It is much more expensive in ARS!

Oscar Welding

Oscar did some welding for us on our car.

Valle de la luna

A Lady came up from the village and told us that we are not allowed to stay overnight.

She told us in addition that access to the Valle is only allowed with a guide.

MEC Museo En los Cerros

Very well worth the detour! Nice museum with friendly staff.

Ayamara Cerveceria

Agreed with Javier!
Extremely friendly and welcoming lady. We got - besides the beer - a lot of things to taste and to learn!

Camping El Molino

Nice and helpful staff. 200ARS p.p.
The lady did our laundry for 200ARS and baked our bread, because the oven in the kitchen did not work 100%.
Clean banos.

Camping El Quitilipi in Caldera

Cheap and not worth the money!
80 ARS p.p. and per car or tent
If you are brave enough to try the run-down showers, make sure that you ask in advance, they are closed most of the day
Check-out 10 am

Camping El Angosto

170ARS p.P. for a slot which your car or camper and 130 ARS pP on a meadow

Finca Colomé

Reservation is a must!
550 Peso per person for a ~3h tour.
Welcome drink, James Turrell museum, Winery Tour and tasting of 3 wines.
We came here again after 10 years to see especially our most favorite “open sky” installation from James Turrell, which is amazing.
Unfortunately the Colomé staff did not allow us to stay until the late hours to enjoy this art work. They allow now only access for their hotel guests, which was out of our budget. Too bad...

Municipal Molinos

Well maintained camp site, quiet, green and clean.
Still 60 Peso p.p. only.

Bodega Tacuil

Scenic drive from Colomé, but very steep and narrow for the last kilometer.
Small bodega with excellent red wines, not cheap

Bodega Humanao

Beautiful winery in excellent scenery.
Decent wine for little money!

el Hornito

Excellent food! Try empanadas, tamal and estofado the cabrito (goat stew)!

Staff very friendly! Strong recommendation!

turn off rp17

Thanks for sharing this beautiful place!
Very quiet and peaceful escape from annoying traffic on RP17 (Lorries between Pocitos and Mina Fenix).

Ojo de Mar

They don’t like any off-road driving in this area, so please always stay on the roads!
We spend the night in our camper on the parking lot and nobody complained.
Beautiful place. Only disadvantage: parking lot is close to the main road and there is some traffic to the mine even at night.
Much quieter option to camp is behind the mine going towards Antofalla.

ojos del campo/ obos colorados

We stayed for two nights. Very nice place. Super quiet. Nobody bothered us.

Botijuela Hot Spring

Small warm pool on Don Simon‘s ground. He charged 200 Peso p.P., but accepts instead Fruit Juice or Pasta.
Spectacular road, 4x4or at least high clearance mandatory. Tremendous view!

Casa de Piedra Alojamiento

Luisa is very kind and welcoming. We could park and sleep in our camper in the backyard, with very clean shower and bathroom for 250 Pesos p.P. (300 Peso p.P. with electricity).
Big rigs may not be able to enter (max height less than 3m).
Food in the restaurant excellent and freshly prepared.

Campos de Piedra Pomez

At this estacionamiento we did run into Guardaparque, which charged us 300 Pesos p.p. Park entrance for foreigners. Easy access to beautiful rock formations from here.
The road from El Penon is easy at this time of the year, there is a „4x4 only sign“ but no 4x4 needed if you stay away from the sandy sidetracks, only a bit rough ripio at times. Very nice scenery, we recommend the trip.

Museo Arquielogico Condor Huasi

Very fine exposition in much to small rooms.
Some descriptions in English.
Open only in the morning.
20 Pesos pp

Termas Villa Vil

Nice new pool with hot water. Still under construction.
No sign. Turn right after big Villa Vil entrance sign when you come from south. You have to cross a river and then turn right. With high clearance and little water no problem.

Camping Don Rito

Electricity is available now, shower still in progress.
Very friendly family. Payment on your will.
We liked the concept and stayed two nights.

Parque Natural Ongamira

We have been told that there are very nice hikes in this parque.
Unfortunately it was closed when we arrived in a rainy day.

Grutas de Ongamira

150 Pesos p.p.
Grutas are not very special but nice rock formations.
Short walk to a viewpoint.

Plaza of Ischilín

Pretty place, nice and friendly people. Good place to stay overnight. No amenities.
Bodega to visit 2 km away.

Alma Gaucho, El Chingolito

We stayed here for two nights. Unfortunately, we did not meet Walter because he was on a trip, but allowed us to stay any-case.
Banos and showers for campers are under construction, quincho is ready.
We got very valuable tips from Walter.

Cerro pan de Azucar

Chair-lift to the top for 350Peso p.p.
Nice view!
