November 21st, 2021 Wild camp, hidden stone quarry

Awesome little space. Even large rig will be hidden from any passer by’s.
Not the most luxurious or awe inspiring place but an epic spot for an one night and it’s protected from any wind.

UPDATE: 29/11/2021
You can wild camp just outside the hot springs. Huuggeee open space, But you won’t get the security guards benefits from being inside the hot springs area And you won’t get the benefit of being the first ones to swim in the hot springs early in the morning.

Having it allll to yourself is just the most amazing thing. Bring a set of swimming goggles / snorkelling gear to really appreciate the crystal clear water, the small fish and the natural water holes inside the hot spring.

Again, water isn’t hot, just nice and warm.

November 20th, 2021 Gravel road

Lovely little spot to overnight with a big rig, bike or bicycle.
Turning off from the road leads you into a main gravel road Roth off shoots.

Pick a spot and enjoy.

Traffic from the main roads is barely audible in the background.

No fire wood, small trees so not much shade and you’ll need to pick a spot carefully to avoid the thorn bushes.

Not a single person or animal in sight.

November 9th, 2021 Ulisa Bay Lodge

Probably the best meal we’ve had in the whole of Malawi… and definitely the best meal on the Island.

Road to get here from the other-side of the Island (where we stayed) is by motorbike which we used from the Lodge we stayed at, but there are loads of motorbike taxis that will easily get you here.

Sit down and enjoy a beer or two while they prepare your meal. View of the water is only 5 meters away and we both had the fish.

Suuuperb. Definitely worth a ride to get here.

October 15th, 2021 Baobab Backpackers Camping

Although a lodge there are camping (for tents) on the grounds.

Space for 4 large tents and there is no access to the camping spots by vehicle ie you leave your vehicle in the parking area and walk around 30 meters to the camping area.

We paid 3,500 kwacha for camping.

We have a roof top tent so slept in the parking area. Designated toilet and bath / shower in bath in the main lodge.

No elec hookup at the sites.
Big rig friendly if you want to park in the drive way. Drive way at a slant so we used a couple bricks to level out the wheels.

Cell phone reception is good (no wifi though)

October 15th, 2021 Water at Total Garage

You can buy filtered water in 20 litre containers for 800 kwacha.

An absolute bargain for fingered water in a big city.

October 10th, 2021 Mama Rula's

USE THESE COORDINATES WHEN ENTERING THE GRAVEL ROAD TOWARDS THE CAMPSITE

There are two entrances using the M12. The Bad Road and the well maintained gravel road.

Use the below GPS coordinates to enter the gravel road….. Not Google Maps.

Sooooo worth it

September 19th, 2021 Wildcamping on a Lake

Awesome little lake where the locals come to wash clothing, and just enjoy themselves.

Super friendly locals and we asked the local villagers if it was ok to stay. They were super happy for us to stay.

Great sunrise and ample flat places to park overlooking the lake.

You will need a 4x4 to get down and back up around a 10 meter section.

Would definitely stay here again

September 14th, 2021 Rundu - Sarasunga River Lodge

95 Namibian dollars for a single person.

Piping hot showers, BUT shower floor tiles are actually wall tiles so suuuuppeerrr slippery and quite dangerous when wet.

Lovely little bar, swimming pool, and grassed shaded area.

Good wifi near reception area, but none at the campsites.

Friendly staff and helpful.

August 19th, 2021 dry waterhole

Eepppiicc wild camp area.

Not a breath of wind, stunningly long lingering sunsets.

August 18th, 2021 Watering hole with lots of animal tracks

Position of the river where the water collects.... even on a drought environment it would seem. Lush trees and lots of animal tracks.

Could be a good place to wild camp.

August 16th, 2021 Semi dry river bed with lots of animals

Semi dry river bed with lots of animals: springbuck, giraffes and oryx.

Saw what used to be three oryx within a 10 km radius that had the hallmark of lion kills

August 16th, 2021 Stone Man statues

Perfectly still here. ‘Sitting’ here and watching the cars go by.

This is number 10 of the ‘lone men’

August 16th, 2021 Stone Man Statues

Sitting loneman with arms crossed.

This statue is situated on a small cliff. I saw bones of an Oryx at the foot of the cliff so be aware of predators.

Cliff has a number of small caves ideal for a leopard hole.

August 16th, 2021 Stone Man statues

Number 22.... the loneman in despair.

Sitting with elbows on his knees and hands covering his face, it would seem that he is having a bad day today

August 16th, 2021 Animal watering hole

Signs of an animal kill around 2 weeks ago looking at the bones and meat remnants.

August 16th, 2021 Stone Man statues

Number 28 of the lonemen of Koakaland, with the slogan ‘I’ll get there sometime’.

The swimming / crawling loneman.

August 16th, 2021 Wild camp

Awesome camping site between two large hills. Just far enough to not hear any cars coming past (although there will be so very little traffic in this area).

Protected from any breeze abs lazy sunsets and sunrises.

Bring your own wood.

Ground perfect for tents and you dog will have lots of room to run around.

No internet signal

August 15th, 2021 Leopard Cave, do not wild camp

Although a natural road leads to what looks to be a superb wild camping spot, o found what looks to be a leopard cave near where you would naturally want to set up camp, and also found a carcass of an Oryx that was around a week old.

This looks like a lovely place to wild camp..... but I would seriously not

August 13th, 2021 Zebra Rest Camp CC

No electricity here. They say they haven’t had for a while

August 13th, 2021 Organ Pipes

A short circular route of around 10 minutes. Not sure the government should be charging for this one.

Price is 40 for
SADC countries and 50 for other countries.

August 13th, 2021 Wild camp between rock formations

Superb spot to spend a day or two.

Sheltered from any wind, flat view of everything around you and lots of wood to make a fire.

August 13th, 2021 Twyfelfontein Rock Carvings

Lovely short 45 minute circular tour with a guide. Well preserved rock etchings.
60 for locals
80 for SADC
100 for all others

August 12th, 2021 River Guest House

Pricing is 160 pppn.
No non B
Wifi only really works near reception, definitely not in the camp site. Pretty good signal and table / chairs around to do work.

Campsites are clean and spacious.

Bathrooms and dish washing area had not been cleaned for a few weeks.

Very noisy at night with lots of dogs barking in neighbouring properties and trucks staring and being warmed up at 5am.

Not a place I’d stay in a hurry unless there wasn’t any other choice.

August 11th, 2021 Ekuta Cave and Rock Paintings / Erongo Singing Rocks

Situated on a private farm that has been owned by one family for over 100 years. Some of these cave paintings date back to over 80,000 years and depict people from as far as Egypt travelling in the area.

The farm owner is a qualified guide and will drive you the last 6km to ensure no damage is done to the surrounding area or the paintings.

Cost 150 person (cash only).

If you ask niicceellyyy you can wild camp near the farm house (looots of open space).

Cost is R100 pppn to wild camp. It’s super secure and you are surrounded by the Erongo mountains on all sides. What a superb experience.

Last 15km is a bit bumpy but can easily be done in a 2x4 vehicle.

August 11th, 2021 Wild camp

Wild camp on private farm. See full details I’ve added to the ‘tourist attraction’ at this same place.

August 9th, 2021 Wild Camp

Epic wild camping spot all around this area.

Sunsets and sunrises are stunning. Try to park as close to the foot of the mountain as possible to provide protection from the wind. Although the wind is not bad at all.

Super safe feeling and a beautiful view of the Valley.

Tents: ground can be quite hard to get tent pegs in.

August 9th, 2021 Shell petrol and diesel station

Fuel available. In this town there is also an Engen, a Spar large and well furnished shop and all the basics in the town
