November 22nd, 2017 COPEC Station Quilimari

Southbound there is wifi, although it is slow. The women's shower is inside the women's baños.. showers were clean and hot. Quiet overnight

November 21st, 2017 Cerveceria Guayacan

Delicious beer! Burgers not available when we visited, only pizzas.. lovely shady, chilled out beer garden. Love the succulent garden installations in the pellet tables... home ideas for when we don't live in a car!

November 20th, 2017 Misty Cliffs

Loved the rugged coastline here! We spent a night down on the beach. There are a couple of spots to level out on, with fire pits. Quiet overnight, just you and the waves.. Gorgeous sunset!

November 19th, 2017 Outside NP Pan De Azucar

Gorgeous spot! We tucked into the rocks down on the beach and spent the evening making pizza on the fire and enjoying cervezas at sunset.. also for us one of the nicest beaches in Chile

November 17th, 2017 Aduana Arica/Antofagasta

No mention of fruit but the car was x-rayed for drugs on our way south

November 13th, 2017 La Chipola

'La Chipola' is the name of this Kiosk.. on top of the reviews below it is really popular with locals, and so is the ceviche place next door - which to us is a great sign!
And they didn't disappoint! We tried the jaiba/queso, camarón/queso, and the mariscos - all were delicious! They also offer just queso, or champiñón/queso for the non seafood eaters :)
Couldn't resist trying the ceviche next door either... yum!

November 13th, 2017 Parking Casino ( Sade)

Open 24hrs, parking per hour $864, or $8640 for a lost ticket (stay as long as you want). The area is well lit, with Security Guards patrolling overnight. Casino Dreams is open from 10am til the wee hours, charges $1000 to enter - you can use the baños inside, but there is no wifi.
We stayed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights - parking lot was quite busy at night, but quiet, and we were not disturbed. Nice promenade and beach area in front. Good option if you are after a central, secure overnight location

November 12th, 2017 Crepisimo

Delicious Crepes! Huge selection of both savoury and sweet crepes, also with a full breakfast menu. We came for dinner and had the alpaca, and the rocoto crepes - both were really good! Pisco sours were also good, and they have happy hour deals.. Gluten free crepes can be made on request using canihua flour :)

November 12th, 2017 Mamaito

We stopped here on our way out of town and we're really glad we did.. The pulpito really is that good!!

November 11th, 2017 Monasterio de Santa Catalina

Absolutely worth the visit! I spent a few hours here, great spot for photos and there's a nice little cafe inside serving good coffee and delicious cakes.. they also had a lunch menu which I didn't look at but I saw some really good looking salads being served to others

November 9th, 2017 Police check

No checkpoint when we came through on a Thursday

November 9th, 2017 Hostel Las Mercedes

Great central spot, agua potable, good wifi and quiet overnight.. showers were a little temperamental but overall good. A few sandflies when we were here.

November 8th, 2017 Repsol Gas station

When we asked at the hotel reception they told us to park in the gated parking lot at the front entrance as it was safer.. quiet overnight even right next to the main road

November 5th, 2017 Kids blocking the road

Further east there were two different groups holding up ropes but they were dropping them as vehicles passed.. seem to be selling trinkets of sorts.. no anger, no rock throwing :)

November 5th, 2017 Senasa Agricultural Checkpoint

No checkpoint when we came through on a Sunday..

November 4th, 2017 Casa del Maestro

We only passed through Ayacucho for the night on our way to the coast so we arrived late and left early.. 6s overnight. Quiet overnight even on a Saturday, and there are baños on site.

November 1st, 2017 Off A Shortcut Between Switchbacks

By the time we got here the fog had cleared, but it was late and as previously mentioned it is out of the line of car lights from the road either side.. quiet overnight, minimal traffic and stunning views!

October 30th, 2017 Cusi Qoyllor

We walked in and asked about availability and price, and they had a private double room available, but the price was s120. When I mentioned that we knew people who had stayed for s60 they said not possible, it must have been per person. As we left they told us they could do it for s80 including breakfast.. walking down the road, the hotel next door offered s50 including breakfast, so we stayed there. Basic and small, but clean, and hot showers.. all we needed for a night before and after Machu Picchu. The second night was a bit noisy, but it was Halloween and the village was celebrating

October 28th, 2017 NaturAle Cusco

Yum!! We had the sweet potato fries and chorizo pizza (gluten free).. both were delicious and the homemade salsa picante was incredible too.

October 27th, 2017 Servicentro Huacarpay

After being woken by Police at Rumicolca and told it wasn't safe, we drove into Huacarpay to park overnight at a grifo.. The first one we passed, Grifo El Volante, told us it was prohibited, but the attendant here was happy for us to park up the back next to the trucks. Quiet overnight, felt safe, clean baños. Good for a night before arriving in Cusco

October 26th, 2017 Rumicolca

No sign of a Security Guard, but we were woken by a couple of Police Officers at 11pm and told it wasn't safe to park here overnight. They said we should continue up the road and park at a grifo instead.. Our first encounter with Peruvian police, and thankfully a pleasant one :)

October 23rd, 2017 Ferry Terminal across Lake Titicaca

40Bs for a Nissan Pathfinder.. we were told this is the standard price for all vehicles, but I'd say it's the standard gringo price :)

October 23rd, 2017 Daniel's Camp / Parking

Great place to stay while in Copacabana! Daniel is very friendly and helpful, there is agua potable straight from the mountain, clean bathroom, hot shower, and it's quiet overnight. 30Bs per night for the two of us in a Nissan Pathfinder

October 22nd, 2017 Lake Titicaca, Bolivia

Good for a night on the way to Copacabana. We arrived late and left early.. only other people were farmers in the field in

October 19th, 2017 Flor de Leche La Paz

Really good cheese and yoghurt! You will see the 'Flor de Leche' sign at the marked location on Carretera El Alto-Mallasa - turn down the side road and then take a right at the next intersection. You will see a sign for parking to the left, and a brown gate with a small door and thatched roof to the right.. through the gate and to the right is the restaurant and there is a fridge in the centre of the courtyard stocked with all the dairy products and a price list hanging next to it. Yum!

October 16th, 2017 Pro-Fix Mecánica - Chaperia

We came here looking for Juan, a mechanic who was recommended by the owner of Anticafe, however Rolando was here, not Juan.. and we think it was meant to be!

Rolando and his team helped us to diagnose and fix a problem with the engine overheating in our Nissan Pathfinder. We had thought it was the thermostat, but knew it could also be due to dust from the roads in Beni and/or the steep inclines at altitude. Rather than leading us into a repair we didn't need, he worked with us to pinpoint the issue and repair it. The service was honest, efficient and well priced. We asked him to change our oil and oil filter while we were there as we were nearly due for this, and he cleaned both our air filter and fuel filter as well, at no extra cost. While we were there, we also took advantage of the chaperia service and had our rear bumper repaired - an old injury from the previous owner.

Rolando has lived in the UK and completed mechanical training in both the UK and North America.. He is a motor enthusiast who loves car racing and also restoring bikes and go-carts.. He is such a nice guy and he prides himself in providing a fair and honest service. What a great find, definitely recommended!

October 14th, 2017 Nissan - Servicing, Main Dealer

We explained our problem to Alexis and what we thought the issue was, however he was fixated on a radiator clean and charging us US$80 dollars for this service that we knew we didn't need. Alexis is not a mechanic, he is customer service and although he was very nice, he did not make us feel confident that we were being provided the best service. We ended up stumbling across Rolando (see 'Pro-Fix Mecánica - Chaperia' post), who has many years Nissan and Land Rover experience and actually used to work here at Taiyo Motors.. Rolando speaks good English and he provided us a transparent and honest service at a fair price.

October 13th, 2017 Pay more

They wanted 25bol per person here. But she said if we lived in Bolivia we only had to pay 15pp. We told her we'd pay the local rate

October 13th, 2017 Gas Station & Water

Negotiated 5bols direct into tank. Not too bad since this is only the second time in 5 weeks that we've paid higher than the local rate, but we expected that coming into La Paz..
