Nice lookout over the town Rurre und river Beni. 30min-1hr climb from the road, depending on fitness. Go in the morning to avoid the scorching heat.

February 15th, 2020 Condor Cafe (Vegetarian)

Great vegetarian restaurant of which half of the profit is used for communal projects to improve living standards. The lunch menu is 25BOB per person for four courses. The tour office (see separate listing) is inside the restaurant.

February 15th, 2020 Condor Trekkers

Condor Trekkers is a non-profit tour agency which organizes tours in Sucre’s surroundings and uses the money to help local communities. They offer 1-4 day trekking tours up to the Maragua crater, rock paintings, dinosaur footprints. Also walking tours of the city at 10AM and 3PM. They also run a vegetarian restaurant at this location!

February 13th, 2020 Manzana Magica(Vegetarian)

Definitely recommended! Follow a staircase up for the restaurant. We had dinner here and it was delicious. Great portions for special dishes (30BOL), like veggie meatloaf. Very friendly staff as well.

February 8th, 2020 Voy agency

Highly recommended! We booked a tour going with 4 people 4 days ending in Uyuni for 1250BOL per person. Everything was very well taken care off. The driver/guide and cook were extremely nice. When I got altitude sickness they cared for me and checked upon me regularly. The first two nights we had a shared room and the last night a private double room. The accomodation is basic, but very clean. The vegetarian food which we asked for was extremely good! Starting from Tupiza is great because you see many amazing things towards Sud Lipez and keep the Salar as an highlight at the end of your trip. Furthermore we stopped at different times than other tours so we were often alone or with very limited people. Just make sure you are used to the heights as you will sleep the first night at 4200m.

February 7th, 2020 Valle Hermoso II

Good hostal. Most of all clean! We had a double bed with private bathroom for 150BOB per night. If you book tours through their agency (they outsourced the tour to Voy Tours - read our review from the tour there) you get a discount and you pay 130BOB for the last night. Breakfast is very basic (bread, butter, jam, coffee/tea) but ok.

February 7th, 2020 Amazonas- Horse tour

Great experience! Definitely recommended. We contacted Gabriela directly and she responded quickly. They offer 3h, 5h, and 7h rides and I guess customized longer ones. They charge 40BOB per hour per person. This includes pick-up from a place in Tupiza and drop-off on the way back. We took the 5h ride which included stops at the highlights and a little lunch sandwich. In the end it lasted 4.5h but we didn’t feel like making a fuzz out of it and just paid. Horses seem to be well taken care of.

February 6th, 2020 The Alamo - Brilliant USA themed restaurant

Great place! Even vegetarians are happy, as there are several vegetarian options. And with so many vegetables! Good price-quality ratio. Would recommend.

January 22nd, 2020 Casa Campestre

Agree with newest posts. Big kitchen and living space available, which is nice in the wetter months. Don’t count on wifi for anything more than whatsapp. Facilities are clean, but showers are hard to get a comfortable temperature. Can also get quite noisy at night, so bring earplugs when camping. For us it was great as it was so close to the town’s center!

January 2nd, 2020 Camping Santa Rosa de Catemu

Nice campsite with windshielded and shadowy spots. When we were there it was quite windy in the afternoon, but completely no wind after 8pm. Seems like it usually gets less windy in the afternoon/evening.

Price was 4500 per person (you pay part of it for day time use and part for camping).

Also useful to know is that they shut the gate at (in our case) 8pm. After that time you cannot (without going through a fence) enter/exit the site. They do provide a phone number for emergency.

We had the whole campsite to ourselves.

December 31st, 2019 Camping Refugio Del Angel

Beautiful campsite. It was a little hard to find a good spot for the Land Rover Defender with rooftent because of the height. Instead of continuing over the bridge on the right, follow the left path and the first spot on the right was perfect. Has a natural pool for swimming. We could take our dog as well. Even though almost all spots were occupied, it never felt busy. I would definitely recommend this campsite.

December 29th, 2019 Turismo el huerto

Prices have increased to 12,500 per person, maybe because of high season. Our Land Rover Defender didn’t fit under the intended camp spaces but we were allowed to park a bit before the camp space so our rooftent could be folded out. Dogs allowed. Noise from the road is within acceptable limits.

December 28th, 2019 Parque De Cachaga

Seemed closed. No people around and entry was blocked for cars.

December 28th, 2019 Camping Cau Cau

Nice owner, but we couldn’t stay as we have a dog. She has had bad experiences with dogs and the chickens she has. Understandably. She would make an exception if we kept the dog on the leash at all times, but as our dog is quite young this wouldn’t fit our needs.

December 28th, 2019 Posada del Parque

We drove by and it was closed. Other people who stopped by found out it opens 1st of January.

December 28th, 2019 Hostal Aconcagua

Good value for money hostal (we paid 30,000 CLP for a double bedroom with private bathroom). For more info, they are listed on booking.com. Our dog was allowed to come with us. The room is new, basic, clean. They have a parking space (not suited for big rigs, our Land Rover defender just fit) and wifi. Good place to take a break on the route from Santiago to La Serena.

December 28th, 2019 Bar Social Casablanca

Bar & restaurant directly on the main street, but has a seating area outside, just behind the building which eliminates most of noise of the road. Outside area has several tables in the shadow. They serve a wide variety of dishes. Vegetarian options available. Mains around 7,000 pp.

December 27th, 2019 Casa Verde

Had a nice time here. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating space. Outdoors overlooks the plaza arturo prat and you can see the ocean. We were allowed to take our dog. The portions are quite generous, as experienced before in Chile. Two veggie mains and a beer and water was 18,000 CLP together.

December 27th, 2019 Lilafken cabañas

Clean basic cabañas which are pet-friendly. They have a private parking area which fits larger cars but not really big ones. We paid 30,000 CLP for a two-person cabaña.

December 26th, 2019 Calypso

Beachfront pizzeria and restaurant with a view of the bird’s rocks. Have a wide variety of dishes and beverages (at the moment we were there only pizzas were served, but maybe that’s due to Christmas). Our dog was allowed to come with us on the veranda.

December 14th, 2019 Camping Refugio Patagónico

Nice campsite, clean facilities. Price went up to 250 pp. Internet is currently not working, not sure if this is a structural thing.

December 13th, 2019 Los Lupulos

Different experience than the previous review. Pizzas are huge with a lot of cheese. Pizzas are okay. They did offer us to take the rest in a box. Internet worked properly. The place got really packed at 10pm.
