turner.bd1969 | Nice clean overnight parking. Second time I’ve stayed here in the last week. Had to make a trip up to Lake Michigan last week and this is the halfway point. Plenty of stores nearby. Trash cans in the parking lot with designated RV parking lanes. I’m in a converted Mercedes Benz 4WD Sprinter and I’m able to park in a smaller parking spot so I don’t have to take up an RV parking spot. Only downside is you are going to be directly next to the freeway. But if you don’t mind having white noise in the background? It’s a great place to stay for free. I would recommend at least going in to eat though since they are nice enough to allow us to use their parking lot. |

anettemartens | Incredibly beautiful place! It is close to the highway but you imagine yourself in the great outdoors. We have parked on a free spot with an adventure truck, but there are also camper pitches with electricity and there are homes for rent! There is a pool. The owner is super nice and helpful. |

lotdot | Drive around Flamingo Lake (worth stopping for a while to do some bird watching), past the football field (left) and the tower (right) to drive to this beach. Follow the path around the hill to your right to get to a parking to camp if you have 4x2, 4x4 with enough ground clearance can go over the hill to get to this spot. You could also get here via the beach, but this is easier. Good cell reception and quiet. |

mastodon.social | Before the end of the wadi there is a plateau on the right sight (small way up between the wall). It's a better place to stay overnight, because there a not so many people and you don't get the diesel pollution from the trucks. But you can still hear them. The toiletts on the abdomend restaurant are still working. On the right sight of the wasi is a freshwatertank which is fill from the mountain. It is not a proplem to fill up your 200 liter tanks for free. And be aware of the food stealing monkeys. |

busleven | We wanted a camp spot with sand dunes close to the city and found this location. Next to the road there’s a big gravel/sand area that is accessible to all vehicles. You can park right next to the small dunes or explore them further with a 4wd. More crowded during the weekend, but we slept well. 4G with Etisalat. |
Damac Hills | 24.97852, 55.36935 | |
freesjevos | A very special place! Camping is a bit rustic but the lodge is absolutely beautiful, just a 1 minute walk from the campsite. The campsite is on the foot of a massive rock and the owner, Elmer, has tons of stories about his area what was once part of a great African Kingdom.
The museum of Mapungubwe is definitely a place to go when you want to know more about the history about this place. Very special place and the owners and staff are all very warm and friendly. There is a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, they have beautiful chalets and the place is surrounded by a lush garden. Definitely a must go. The bell at the gate is not working so you must just open de gate yourself and drive in. |
