spots all over this area. And a vault toilet nearby. Not sure of the cleanliness of it.

Coming down 637 from the North, the way is well maintained from paved to gravel. Lots of nice spots along this road. This site is clearly a local camp/swim spot. Just a little pull off on the side of the road. Hardly any cars on a weeknight. Quite tranquil in May. Flowers, birds, and sun. Great spot for swimming and sunning on the rocks.

You could probably fit a big rig if you can make the wind-y gravel road.

Friendly reminder to please take your trash with you and leave it better than you found it :-)

In Mexico the hours are from 8:00AM to 9PM. Going from Guatamala to Mexico. Guatemala also doesn’t open until 8:00 AM. Very easy process. If you have an animal; make sure that all of the paperwork matches and that there are no inconsistencies.

Awesome longtime motorcycle mechanic. This small Shop is owned and run by Jorge, for 40 years or so, Brought our DR650s to him before heading south to Central America , he was super knowledgeable and very helpful. I do all the work on the bikes, but he let me work at his place and gave me some very amazing suggestions on how to do things better then I was. He isn’t just a small Chinese bike mechanic either, he owns a Suzuki hayabusa 1300cc bike and rides super well, could barely keep up with his small 125cc commuter bike in town following him. Point being, he is very able and capable to work on your bike. I needed some welding done, her personally drove me to his friend the welder and we spent the day building new racks for my bike. Overall I can’t recommend this guy enough. If he was back in my home country, I would bring my bike to him any time I couldn’t do it myself. He pointed me in the direction of where to get the best parts and to restock on lost tools and offered up his own if I couldn’t find replacements. This guy is awesome, I spent a few days watching him work, while i worked on my bike, he knew his stuff. Also, around the corner is one of the best stocked motorcycle part stores I’ve been to in Mexico. Called Lasa motorcycles. 10/10 would recommend.

Large flat circular desert soil spot on the S side of Mad Cow Rd, about 200 yds off of 789. Although much of the BLM land for the last hour from the S was impassible red mud, this spot (thankfully) is solid and dry.
It’s not fancy, but the bushes surrounding it give privacy, and the land is very open. The low horizon on the west results in a beautiful sunset.
There are probably more (better?) sites further up Mad Cow Rd; but we didn’t check them out.
We have 3 bars on AT&T

A modest, clean 10-room hotel with a kind older lady running it. Water pressure was decent, hot water available (ask for heater to be turned on 30 min before you need it). No A/C, but you won't need it here. You will, however, enjoy the three thick blankets on the bed.
Secure parking behind a locked gate, big enough for all but the largest rigs.
500 pesos for a 2-bed room for 2 people.
Note there is no cell service in town, and we couldn't find anyone to buy wifi access from.
As there was no restaurant operating in town, the owner made us a simple supper for 100 pesos.
The hotel reception is in the convenience store.

We showed up here. The door seems to be the tiny wooden door to the right of the purified water vendor. However, it was locked. We knocked. No one answered.
We tried several other hotels in the area, and received the same lack of reception. Perhaps being low season some hotels aren't operating? We finally found a room at Hotel Sierra Azul and were quite happy there.

beautiful spot, clean( please keep it this way), no people arround. But you just can get there, when your vehicle is under 2m high. There is a steel gate for that clearance. You should not go there when rain/ thunderstorm comes up. It's the highest point arround.

we found this place when traveling from moskow to Kazachstan via Saratov.
it's a patch of forest and a pond in the middle of farm lands. you can stay next to the pond or drive up a bit and find a nice secluded space where you're not visible for the road or the farm land.

probably need a 4x4 when it's wet.

we stayed here with a four person tent and our car. but there is plenty of space for bigger vehicles.

We stayed here for 1 night after crossing the border. Perfect place if you just want to stop for the night. Toilets available and lot’s of super friendly locals making picnic/bbq. Truck drivers also stop here. Relatively quiet after midnight.

good place to stay for 1 night on the way to or from de border. A dead-end sandy road leads uphill to 3 consecutives dirt quarry with a lot of space. it seems to be some private property because of the presence of petrol welm, but there is no sign nor fences and we saw no one to ask permission. Hence it might not be 100% legal to stay here but no one bothered us. It is far away frome any village and completely hidden from the main road, And the view is absolutely stunning!
big rig friendly, but be careful to the holes in the road to climb here.

this border post closes at 16h, we arrived at 15h25 and all formalities out of cabinda and in RDC were done in half hour! perfect! extremely friendly staff both side! no money asked, and the chief of RDC immigration even helped us to change money in the market at good rate (10$ for 22'500 franc congolais).
one of the easiest border post we've done so far, but I guess it is because everybody wanted to stamp us fast and go home.

Marked as private property now. I planned on camping here, but there was a private property sign at the pull-off where others camped. no where else along the road that seemed public land, and the road was gated just past the pull-off.
