Guinea-Bissau -> Guinea.
Blink and you miss it, small track to the hut. For bicycles and motorcycles only. Impossible for cars or trucks. Even big motorcycles like ours - very difficult. Stamped passports out. Stamped G-B pass-avant and gave it back to me (odd, but ok) and asked 2000 CFA.
Then they suggested one if their officers come help us, to push the bike if needed. Very glad we agreed - he led the way on his own bike then at one point I let him ride ours over the rickety, narrow footbridge over a small river (and he needed two people stabilizing him).

Guinea-Bissau -> Guinea.

By the time we got to this point we were committed but man I was having second thoughts. The Guinean checkpoint officer asked for our visas and when we showed on our phone, he made a huge deal about needing a paper copy (for the dossier) and that we'd have to go back. Back means the awful wet rutted track 3 km back to the road, across the impossibly rickety and falling apart bridge - not to mention new G-B visa (was single entry). I offered 10k CFA and he feigned offense and got stern. When I pulled out all I had (30k) he said "that's not even 50k, and you hope that will be enough to facilitate?!" I really couldn't see a way out of paying and it chafed. He even had me sign in his register book that I asked him to facilitate. Anyway, finally got through, but not happy about it. The G-B guys helping us told us after that even if we had our visas printed, he would have contrived another excuse. He was not a friendly guy.

A few km later on (but before the river) is another checkpoint. This guy extorted us a fee for the bike. Again, I couldn't see a way out.

The river crossing was by pirogue, 15000 CFA and I felt it was totally worth it. The boatman and some other guys wrangled the GSA onto it and made it across. Squeaky bum time - not a lot of freeboard, quite tippy, and I had visions of the bike at the bottom of the river. The bigger car/truck barge is broken (and doesn't look like it will be fixed any time soon).

Awesome sustainable living space, PET friendly, and innovative space for alternativo tourism. Súper welcoming hosts, Sol and Cris. Pay 15 000 CLP use of kitchen, outdoor patio, hot showers, bathroom. Parking lot for small vans, not big rigs. Super close to Osorno downtown

Hotel Filao.
350k for small room.
550k for big room.
750k for room with two beds (says on the price list).

Takes guinean franc, CFA, USD, Euro. No cards.

We were happy to stop after long long day from Bissau and across that terrible border and river crossing.

Small room has good AC and hot water (only hot water, no cold!).. but bathroom is a disaster (no door, no toilet seat). Room has no mosquito net but I saw one in another room. Tasty restaurant. Includes breakfast. A whole block closer to the main road than it shows on Google Maps.

Simple but clean, has AC, good Wifi, parking space, shared kitchen, no breakfast. It's cheap, I paid ARS 7500/night for 1 person (about USD 8).

Free government wifi next to the public school.Not the fastest, and you have to keep logging in, but it is free and one of the only options in this little town.

Super friendly, they couldn't break our 50 so we just gave them all the change we had which was like 8.50. It is on the side street that is a one way, not the main street across the railroad tracks.

WARNING! 11/2023 Don't leave your car alone during the day. Cars were broken into while people sat on the beach just a few meters away. Sleeping or in the car is no problem. I hope the police catch them soon.

Advertencia! 11/2023 No dejes tu coche solo durante el día. Aquí, los autos fueron asaltados mientras la gente estaba sentada en la playa a solo unos metros de distancia. Dormir o en el coche no es un problema. Espero que la policía los atrape pronto

Nice quiet place to spend the night. Not much to look at other than sand dunes and sea marsh. Access was easy. Didn’t need 4wd, but engaged it anyways just to feel manly. I would imagine it would be necessary after rain or if you tried to park too close to the ocean.

Beautiful and busy! (Usually I keep driving to find the perfect spot. My advice: find a spot, take it, and be grateful!)

the road is called Monkey Trail, with 2 rivers to cross then quite steep climbs and descents on a narrow, tarmac road. we did it with our combi VW 2x2 van but I won't do it again, too stressful

great spot, room for a handful of vehicles. gate says private property now, but it's still open for camping. FYI, the bathroom is closed right now, so bring your own as there isn't really enough space or trees to dig holes. we kayaked and snorkeld right off the beach and both were great. saw a huge pod of dolphins this morning, and people were catching dorado from the beach.

We camped on a sandy mound next to the industrial area. Access is via a side road which snakes around the forest. The final meters are only accessible by foot or bicycle. After the barrier follow the path for approximately 50 meters. Then you will find a flat, sandy, grassy area. The footpath ends at a dead end, so nobody came around in the morning.

Though located next to an industrial complex, the night was very peaceful. There are no facilities at all - no toilets, no water, no electricity, no shelter etc.

This is a flat, grassy area along the Miya river. It is popular among locals who camp here. Car access is possible, probably also for larger vehicles.
It looks like the place is undergoing some improvements in the upcoming years. The current facilities include: non-flush toilets, a few benches, no water (except for a natural stream), and no electricity.

The road up to rainbow mountain is absolutely doable also with big rigs (we are 2,50 wide, 8,20 long and 3,60 high). Bigger could be challenging, though. There are a couple of really tight hairpins that need careful manouvering, but are doable. Yes, the road is sometimes single lane but plenty of spaces before and after to pass each other. We drove up at 2pm until the spot "near road" and had almost no cars coming the other direction.
We then continued to rainbow mountain early the next morning at 6.30 which was perfect, too, as all the tour busses start to come approx an hour later. We drove down at 1 pm and all the tour busses were already gone again. So again a really relaxed drive.
If you have questions, don't hesitate to drop us a message in Instagram: follow_fridu.
On the way you will have to pay 5 S/ per person for road maintenance just when you enter the first (old) parking spot. From that you can continue further up to a newer parking place closer to the mountain, where you have to pay the 20 S/ entrance fee per person.
Don't miss going also to the red valley, it's absolutely worth it, maybe even nicer than rainbow mountain (we paid another 10 S/ p.P. at the entrance).

Nice place. Lionel is very helpful. A bit hard to find. When on Ruta 2 (coming from BA), turn right at km 65. Then after 800 meters, turn right again until the yellow house.
