This is a normal Peruvian mountain road. Mostly in good condition (a lot paved) but you also find some short passages of bad gravel. Sometimes only one lane so drive carefully. Doable with almost every vehicle, also local trucks drive there. We made it with two big motorcycles without any problems.

Report Check-In

Yes. It is a scary road. So many blind curves. Locals drive it fast so be Carefull. But I think any car can do it (big rigs will struggle maybe). We did it in 2 days.

izcuchaca - mayoc
la calle está en mala condiciones y bien estrecha en varios puntos. muchos huecos, derrumbes y partes destapadas.
a pesar de eso la hicimos sin problema con un microbus de 7 metro.

We were on our Adv motorcycles and not prepared for how bad the road really was. Maybe 60% asphalt and the rest dirt and gravel. Many landslide areas on the road and so many very narrow spots and blind corners with cliffs on the edge. We spent 4 hours of white knuckles and honking at every blind corner and still almost was hit multiple times. I don't see how anything bigger then a car or pickup could make it past the landslide spots.

We chose this road of the three options because it was recommended to us by locals. It is 90% good asphalt with the occasional pothole and dirt road bit. This road is your best bet if you drive a small rig like we do (Mitsubishi L300). Trucks also use this road and it has a lot of parts where there's only space for one vehicle, so bigger rigs might struggle a lot more. We were happy with our choice.

yes this toad is a combination of good asphalt and bad asphalt, good ripio and bad ripio bit absolutly doable with our 2wd minivan. true, somtimes very narrow passage with cliffs on one side and mountain on the other. But u also see local trucks doing this road

The road is bad .... some parts asphalt some dirt road.... Very narrow....so big rigs could struggle! We have a shuttle bus (short schoolie bus) and it was ok but we didn't enjoy the road so much. We recommend doing this part in the early morning since not many people on te road. Afternoon you will find much more cars and trucks! In such an narrow road not fun .... some parts dirt road with rock's wall in one side and cliff on the other ! We drove almost all the time 20k per hour... some parts even slower! Some people said the asphalt is great ...it is in the beginning coming from the north...
after the dam the road change so much! Abd if you ask the locals they always said "normal" and the time they said is driving as a Peruvian...so imagine a lot more!!! summing up: Big rigs check if you really want to take this road ....also because ain't many places to enjoy the beautiful river with big rigs ....if you have motorbikes and a tent ....you will enjoy way more !

Took this road after police and locals said it was open....and it was open. Some gravel sections but all doable with 2wd even in rain.

Marking this as closed but be sure to ask locals.

Report Check-In

Today we ask the police and they said that the road is closed for vehicles. There is also a sign that says that, so we took 3SM instead.

Report Check-In

This road is 90% asphalt and well maintained. There are absolutely no pot holes... despite having lots of landslides... they upkeep this road very well and fill any holes on the roadway. The unpaved parts are on sections that have lots of landslides and they'll probably never have those sections paved. I road a bicycle and you can easily pass by the construction zone on a bicycle. Many motorcycles also pass easily too. But sometimes they make the cars wait because they use big machines to move around the dirt/rocks. The construction section is on about 200 meters long and it's an area where lots of landslides occur.

Report Check-In

There was another landslide or they were stills working on the first one. I was able to cross the landslide with my bicycle during the day. They removed the material from the road so vehicles can pass. probably at your own risk. i can't give a guarantee that you can cross with your car during the day. it heard some trucks during the evening on the road. maybe it was open during the evening and might? 2 local motorbikers crossed it when I was there A road block was in Mayocc. Probably it is possible to ask there if you speak Spanish.

Report Check-In

Still closed. We were told long before here to take the desvio from Anco via Andabamba (on our way north) which is all rippio.

The 13 of agosto is close. We went with thé machina.

Report Check-In

Close for hours. For us, open at 4pm in the way to Ayacucho. Was good being fist to the headline. Bad&narrow road at this point and longer unpaviment kms

Report Check-In

The road is closed here as of July 15, 2019. There is construction above which has caused a landslide and closed this section. There is no cell service here, so finding an alternative route is a bit tricky.
