Description

Several great campsites along the east side of the Upper Salmon River. Dont turn at the bridge (see July 2021 comment for directions). Close to Hwy 75, but really quiet. At our visit end of April all Forest Roads are closed due to snow. So this is the best option between Stanley and Ketchum.

Don’t turn down the forest road, that’s what confused me, I assumed there was another bridge — that that they were referring to the highway bridge. The mile marker is 184 and is on your left and the turn is on your right. I didn’t see any camping signs previously referred to. Got here around 7 and there are a few open spots. Lots of TTs that seem to have been here for a bit

This place is great, lots of space and the river is nice to have. I came here because all the designated camping near Stanley was crowded on a Saturday evening.

Just as described. Energy of the location is awesome. Lots of vans here presently and still room to park.
As mentioned, driving south across bridge, about a 1/4 mile turn west.

Would be an okay spot if you were completely alone here, but right across the small river is several houses overlooking you. When busy look forward to vans or RV parking within feet of you. Let’s also not forget the smell of human feces in the air. I guess if you’re in a sprinter or RV and you don’t really leave your bubble you’ll love this spot that has now become completely over run.

GPS WARNING: these coordinates will take you ACROSS the river from the camping. Don’t turn at the bridge as google maps directs you. Instead, from the 75, go south over the bridge and turn right (west) onto a dirt road at a mile marker. There are 2 small signs with camping rules, read them and continue straight.
Good flat spots next to river that sounds like a perfect babbling brook, not too loud but loud enough to drown out surrounding neighboring conversations and road noise. Some shade but not at every site. The ground is sandy loaded with river rocks. Bugs are abundant in the evening and impossible to control. I didn’t see too many mosquitos but I did get a few bites. Please no fires while there is a fire ban and don’t forget to leave it better than when you found it. LNT!
We stayed during the week after 4th of July and it was about half capacity each night. There are big rigs & small rigs here. Verizon 4 bars of LTE with Weboost. No ATT service.

Nice land with several pull offs to camp. Good for vans or RVs. Road in is a little rocky but not bad for my old Econoline. Spotty Verizon service but still works.

Report Check-In

Arrived just before a several hour rainstorm. Parked closer to highway for improved Verizon coverage. shows 3 Bars LTE. But not very Usable. Couldnt get things to download for working online. Will need to find better connecting spot tomorrow. Pretty views, road noise minimal.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot to stay! Right by the river, with probably 12 “camp spots”. Some noise from the road but not bad during the night. We had extended network from Verizon but it worked perfectly!

Report Check-In

Limited spots available on a Monday in July. Found a spot amongst the others. Ground is a mix of dirt, rock and grass. Temp is in the upper 60’s and expected to be a cold night. Not bad for a free dry camp site near the Salmon River

Several great campsites directly at the Upper Salmon River. Close to Hwy 75, but really quiet. At our visit end of April all Forest Roads are closed due to snow. So this is the best option between Stanley and Ketchum.
