Nice place to camp, we have a 27ft Travel Trailer and was able to get down the path and in a spot right next to the river. There is nothing like hearing a flowing river to rock you to sleep. They have fire pits available, but no trash, please pack out what you pack in. Side note, please use designated camping areas on the road due to the amount of private land in the area.

beautiful spot in the canyon with great camp sites right next to river with fire pits no trash please pack in/out
Report Check-InThere are several campgrounds on this road. This one is the last one with toilets. Bay City is the first one, a short distance from the end of pavement, but it is rutted and can be muddy. Another 0.7 miles if Snowslide, which is better for larger rigs. Next is Kroger, which is better for tents and smaller rigs, but there's water. La Plata is nice, and right on the river, but can be crowded and noisy. The road is good at this point, but gets bad after this campground. Cell service is great at the turn off from US 160, but goes away as you go up the canyon.
Report Check-InVery pretty but also very busy! Lots of cars stopping in for the view as well as campers looking for a spot. If you prefer solitude, this is not the spot.
The creek is wonderful.
Since this site is in a deep valley, you don’t get the sun for too long which makes it pretty chilly in the fall. Just a heads up.
My rig is a 34’ 5th wheel so I had to park near the entrance to the riverside campsites (also in the open for solar) but it is still great. Smaller, more agile rigs can pick great sites right on the fast flowing river (too fast for fishing). At 9k evaluation it is a bit chilly this time of year (60s today, probably 40s or lower tonight). None of the fee campsites are open.
Report Check-InGreat campsites by the creek, decent enough to get to. There are a few other sites like this along the road coming from Durango, I believe others have bathrooms? No Verizon or AT&T service. Cows roaming around very close to cars!!!
