Great spots with a view of the hills and the sound of the river in the gorge next to it. Has a level spot but nothing bigger than a large van could fit in it. has a small turn around driveway that could fit two cars. flat spot could fit one large tent or two small ones. fire ring already set up. The road was not very bumpy at all and well maintained. there was another really good spot on the left before this one. and possibly a few more down the road but I didn't check it out.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
road closure on turkey creek so we can't go far but enough space for two cars just off the main road
Report Check-InWe drove up late on Tuesday night (9:30) after dinner in Pagosa. Took the first one we found. In daylight there is a great parking spot plus a tent spot further back. We could have probably backed in. This morning’s walk revealed 2 additional spots further up with plenty of room to park and set up tents. The middle spot has the best view. Ours has a good one too. Easy to do with 2WD Promaster van. Saw multiple deer on our walk too.
Report Check-InThere are a few good spots all along this road, but this one looked like the best. I was the only one here on a Sunday night. Saw a ton of deer. No cell service. You have to keep driving if you want any views, the spot itself doesn't really have any. The road to the spot is fine, but I continued down the road and had to turn around because I didn't feel safe in my 2wd. It was quite muddy after rain. But again, the road to the spot was good.
Report Check-InI stayed at the top of this road. Not hard to get up in my food transit connect. No service. Only seen one person and he was a local hiking the trail that is near there. It was muddy and snowy so he turned back.
Nice spot
I drove almost all the way up the road in my short skoolie with no problem at all. they were at least five or six different spots where you could either pull off or there's actually an established campsite. I got a great spot with a fire ring and a decent view. Plenty of dead and down wood to make a fire with. Highly recommended!
Report Check-InWe stayed on this spot for 4 nights. One of the best. Great views and fire ring. Saw maybe 5 cars in those 4 days. We had the second spot on the left, about 1 mile up on Turkey Creek Road, left on 160 driving from Pagosa to the North. Road is good condition. Spot was large enough for our ford e250 extended and trailer.
Report Check-InWe had heard this place could get crowded, so we drove up early and took a spot closer to the entry than this point. Can’t speak for the spots further up the road but our spot over the hillside was perfect. Small campfire on the lower level of the spot, but after a little bit of rain the embankment was almost too steep/slippery to get our 2wd sprinter back up; we moved our van to the higher spot to make sure we would be able to pull out easily. Cell signal nonexistent but the view was phenomenal and quiet after 9pm. We heard coyotes on the hillside throughout the night but saw no other wildlife.
Report Check-InSeveral decent spots on the 3 mile stretch. On this date there were 4 rigs. Road became rutted after mile 2. No cell service for T-Mobile.
Report Check-Inbreathtaking views Road wasn't that bad came in a van beautiful Mountains views
Report Check-InLots of spots once you turn onto the dirt road. Some off small side roads and others as large pullouts. Pretty views of the mountains. No traffic noise. No Verizon cellular service
Report Check-InRad camping. Trail at turn around is worth hiking. Be kind to nature and she will be kind to us.
Report Check-Ingreat camping a nice views on the main
road in. no wi-fi for us with Verizon. we were in a white van and a white pickup camper.
This was a great little spot, and because nobody else camped in the area we had complete privacy despite the site being right off the forest road. Gorgeous views and as others stated, the road in is super well maintained and caused essentially zero bumpy stress. :) Its only 3 miles long before you hit a dead end, so if it doesn’t work out it won’t be a super long detour before you are back on 160. We saw 4 established campsites - maybe one very simple “pull-in” that could work in a pinch. The largest and flattest campsite is a couple miles in off to the right. It didn’t have any gorge views but did have a lot of space and privacy. None of the spots (in November) offered great sun for solar charging but that could be different when the sun doesn’t by 5 pm.
