Rwanda
The DR1 is a stunning drive through the Nyungwe National Park. We stopped here but you can go to the Burundi border. It's a dirt road but in good condition (2x2ok). We saw monkeys and birds. And it's free!

I confirm the scenic nature of the road but...
The Chinese are paving it. The first six kilometres from the junction with the main road are asphalt; the remaining part is divided between dirt road in good condition and disaster. Lots of mud despite being in the dry season.
I cannot say how long it will take to finish the work, but at the moment I do not recommend it.
Watch chimpanzees crossing the road, for free. Nice to pull over and just watch and listen. Beautiful thick rainforest
Report Check-InIndeed a beautiful dirt road! We came from the RN6 and went down south. They are working on the road, so soon it will be tarmac. We didn’t go to the border with Burundi but took the road to the west, towards Lake Kivu. This road we liked even better and we guess it will stay dirt. Stunning views, rocky road with some clay sections, but not too technical with a motorcycle (also doable with 4x4 as we passed some trucks as well).
Report Check-Inbe careful if you want to cross the border to Burundi here you will end up in a dangerous zone.
