Description

This is an official campground ($3pp) under trees, you can check in and register at the office nearby and choose which camping site to go to.

No amenities if you stay between the trees (but an amazing view of the Cotopaxi), but it's not too far to walk to the toilets and other amenities at the office (Wifi there too!)

We stopped here to picnic (as indicated on the sign), an unpleasant man arrived, he ask us to park our car in the parking lot and pay US$2 per person! According to him even to picnic you have to pay. We left.

Beautiful and quiet place. you have a lot of pit fire places, unfortunately the pack of fire wood is 8$! now. Fox and deer around.

great view and very nice place. you have to park on the open space, not on the grass under the trees. everything as described. $ 3 pp. we saw deer and make a good walk to the laguna and further to the mirador ( see i overland blue picto). We left the park trough the north entrance and took the dirt road with no problem to Sangolqui.

This place is great. Super quiet and clean when we were there. $3pp. Totally fine vibes.

Report Check-In

This is one of the best wild camps we have found in all of Ecuador.
It’s high and cold, but at night the park is closed and quite. If your visiting the park, this is a great place to camp

Report Check-In

Definitely not free and it makes sense that it is not as it is part of the national park. It's obvious that someone will come over and ask you to register if you try to camp here for free.

That said, it's one of the best places to camp we found in Ecuador so far and reminded us of camping in the national parks in Canada / US.

After you register at the office (the second camp spot on the map and the only building close by), you can choose to camp here or next to the office. At the office you have clean toilets, good wifi, a restaurant and a public seating & cooking area. Down between the trees you have nothing but an amazing view on Cotopaxi and complete silence (this is how we like our camping). It's not too far to walk to the office if you need toilets or something though.

Price is $3 per person, and you can get a big bundle of nicely cut firewood for $5. There are designated fire pits all over the place.

Highly recommended if you visit the park! It gets cold at night and remember that you are at almost 4000m.

The woman running the place said $3 per person then $5 for a bundle of firewood. We went to check out the wooded area, got excited and went back to pay and she said we can’t stay in the wooded area anymore ? Clean bathrooms. She said she usually has lunch but not today, only coffee. So we just bought some firewood and drove on.

When we entered to the park asked to the rangers about this place. They told us that for RV it's free. When we arrived to the spot an angry couple come and said that the place is consession, not free and migth park our vh in the small parking Lot into the trees (no views or sun). The place is beatiful but the services are far away and the people bad vibes. Didnt stay and went to cóndor huaico place.

Report Check-In

We stayed here one night with a nice view on the volcano. Costs $5.- per night to sleep in the van. Toilets are available at the refugio. It’s not allowed to park on the grassy parts, just on the gravel parking lot.

Report Check-In

the area under the trees is not free! one of the guardian came and asked for 5$ with access to water, wc.

Report Check-In

The lady of the other place visits also this spot for collecting 5 USD when camping here.

Report Check-In

Still a very nice campsite but we had to pay $5 for the van.

Report Check-In

Very nice free campspot under trees, wind protected and beautiful view of the volcano.

Report Check-In

This is a free campspot under trees, near the new established campspot, where you have to pay $5 pp. But here is nothing, no water, no toilets. Therefore its for free, as the ranger told us at the entrance.
