I wouldn't recommend coming here in rain season. The road was terrible terrible! I still crossed 3 taxis on my way down and the road is always very narrow, so for one of those, I ended up in a Peruvian stalemate where neither of us wanted to get out of the way. I was not going to reverse back up the hill on this very bad road, so I waited him out. I got a bed and food for days so I can litterally wait for days. After some insults, he eventually back a bit until a wider part.

As for the spot itself, I am sure the view is nice when you can see something, but I felt too much like camping in someone's field to be comfortable. The locals said it was fine, but I still felt like intruding.

Yes rough and slow. Definitely need high clearance but our 2WD Sprinter made it up without much trouble. Not many options on where to park and camp. Probably best to ask someone near by if it’s ok to camp. We did and they said of course it’s fine, but it’s good to be polite. The view is unbelievable, coming here is a must do!!

You can easily do a fun half day hike here if you want to leave your rig in Huaraz. We took a collective (#10 or E line) from near the market for 1 sole each. Ask them to drop you at Puente Santa Cruz. Trail is shorter than the road and pretty. Easy hike. Took maybe 1.5 hours up. Apparently it's pretty common to use as an "acclimation" hike, or first hike in Huaraz to test the altitude. We were already adjusted to the altitude. To get back just flag down any collectivo heading back to town.

The biggest size is 600 cm (sprinter) in length and 250 cm hight. The road is not for motorhomes and big trucks. High clearance and 4x4 is recommended. Downhill maybe harder if it is wet.

Absolutely stunning place for wild camping. The road is challenging but doable, took us 30 minutes to go up and 45 to go down the next day. Not for big rigs indeed as the road is very narrow at some places. We enjoyed the bumpy drive! Few houses around the lake, and day hikers during the day. Small lake and Great view on the cordillera!

Amazing views from this lake. A must camp at if you are passing through. People are friendly and lots of farm animals around. But please pick up your trash and maybe even some that's not yours. There was some trash when we got here not sure if it was other overlanders or the locals but help keep it clean and the locals happy.

No, this track is not for big rigs.
How could we imagine a big rig climbing there...

The drive up to the Laguna is about 45 minutes on a tough dirt road. The route is shown on maps.me as a footpath. The Laguna is very small but the view of the cordillera blanca from here is truly spectacular. Be aware that this spot has houses dotted around it and there were friendly locals walking past the car and around the Laguna going about their business. We spoke to them and they said it was fine to camp.

A bit rough road leading to the laguna, at one point only about 2m wide, so not sure about big rigs. Heavy rain in the evening, but calm night and morning met with staggering views. Calm, friendly locals :)
