Latest Check-Ins

We stayed there during 2 days as volunteers. We paid 25$ pp and per day (food, bedroom, showers, WiFi included). It was really nice to stay there and help to take care of animals and to feed them. The house is not really clean but it was okay for 2 nights. Highly recommended to spend time with monkeys and other animals.

Report Check-In

we arrived at 5 so we decided to overnight and the next morning go to the see the monkeys. One of the free monkeys come to visit us. Is a small "mono ardilla" very beautiful and friendly. But be aware of food ! He like to go inside the cars. Even with our two dogs inside! The animal shelter is with a new administration in charge. Since Ivan wife tried to kill him! She left with some tools and locker's keys from some "jails" with they usually keep the violent animals. So they need help to "rebuild" the shelter!!! They need visitors!

We slept there one night. It was ok. No showers, and the bathrooms are “old style”... we paid 2 dollars. The owners are super nice. The wifi is good if you park right in front of their room.

Report Check-In

We slept in the parking, people were nice and paid 2$ (1$ for the night and 1$ for the day) for other comments look at the picture icon! :-)

Great parking spot. Bathrooms, water, beer, soda for sale. We came to check it out for volunteering, but didn’t feel that it was a good match for us. We did arrive at feeding time so the animals were very active. Nice facility, with a lot of needs and areas to work on. BTW, dogs allowed in parking but NOT in animal area.

They ask 2$ for one night. No shower. One clean wc.

Great spot for a visit, don’t miss this place! We stayed overnight at the parking lot next door, quiet and secure night. They even let us plug in our van as we didn’t have much sun. We talked with Ivan (the owner) and volunteered the next day cutting fruits and feeding the animals at 8am. The zookeeper was sick so they were very happy for the help! Was great to have the whole place to ourselves in the morning and evening. Wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommended!

very cool place. super glad we drove down from Banos for the day. a must visit if you are in the area. did not camp but looked decent for a night or two.

Report Check-In

We helped out for a morning and spent some time with the vollies there. Everyone was very friendly and generous. Spent time cutting fruit, seeing the baby monkeys until 10ish. Paid a dollar to sleep in neighbours parqueo, very friendly old couple. Glad we stopped.

Report Check-In

Nice sanctuary and setting to see the monkeys and other animals. Recommend doing on your own without tour company.easy to get here, and just one hour is all you will be here. Easy parking across the street and safe with bathroom.

Report Check-In

We had intended to volunteer but place is more like a GAP year volunteering experience for European youth. Being older Overlanders and english speakers we felt out of place. This is the only place in Ecuador that we saw native animals.
Overlander parking and camping is in neighbours front yard which felt a bit too busy and noisy for us but only one dollar per night.
We moved on after looking around and leaving a donation.

Stayed here as Volunteer for 3 Days.
There where a few others, we had a good Time and we could help a little bit. But in my opinion, a bit more organisation for this place would be great. Sometimes it is a bit confusing with timetables which dont work at all.
And you dont need 4x4 to get there.

I came here late in the afternoon on bicycle and asked if I could pitch my tent. I didn't have to pay anything, was able to take a bucket shower, wash my clothes and live in the jungle. The next morning I visited the refuge for $3 which was awesome. I recommend volunteering if you get the chance, you can volunteer from one day +

Great visit! You can car camp in the level gravel parking lot across from the rescue center ($1). Extremely friendly owners. You can visit the monkey rescue for $3/pp or ask to volunteer. Owners Ivan & Lisette are great. We volunteered at 8am to make food for all the animals. They currently have a baby sloth and a few baby monkeys living in the house. The rescue center has 60+ animals in total (monkeys, ocelots, parrots, tortoises, pigs, etc) great organization! Wish we could have stayed longer. Bathrooms available 24/7 at parking lot or at nutrition building (main entrance) to rescue.

Camp at the property across the Paseo de Los Monos for $1 per night. The family that owns the parking lot are incredibly friendly and will let you use their clean restroom (bucket flush). $3 pp to visit the Monkey Sanctuary for the day OR you can volunteers helping prepare food for the monkeys at 8:00 AM and feed them. You get to share with the Lisette and Ivan, the owners place with the baby monkeys!!! A very nice experience! Recommended.

Report Check-In

A really great animal rescue centre to visit ($3/$1.50) and you can camp at the parking lot of the family who live opposite ($1). Ivan and Lisette are extremely welcoming, will teach you all about the different monkeys, turtles, birds, wild pigs, coatis etc... They also currently have two baby monkeys living in their house so a great chance for kids to cuddle a monkey or feed with bottle. They are happy for travellers to stay a few days and help around the centre, or just to visit. The river is beautiful for swimming. Highly recommended stop!

Parking face à l'entrée du paséo de los monos 1$ la nuit.
Nous avons passé une journée à faire du bénévolat chez Yvan.

les vagueauvent. We spent 3 days, helping Yvan the owner with some voluntaries. Feed more than 50 monkeys, coatis, turtles, snakes. Maintain enclosures, learn about animals, wild life and Ecuador with Yvan who speak spanish english and french. Everybody is great in this place! We slept into our truck on the parking near Paseo for 1$/night.
You can also simply visit the place for 3$ (1.5$ for less than 12 years).
In any case make a donation because they merit a lot.

Nice place to visit with kids. The road is accessible with a big RV.

Report Check-In

We did it with our RV which is 7 meters (21 feet). So it's big rig friendly ! This is a stoned road with up and down but only for 500m. We were a little bit affraid but it was ok. We did it 3 times because we had to go at Puyo when we were here. The second one after a lot of rain. Still ok.
We stayed 4 days and paid 1$/d at the ower of the parking (5$/week). If u don't want to pay, ask to Ivan, the owner of los monos, to show you an other place.
Ivan come from Switzerlnd. He speak french, english and spanish.
You probably could use shower of the owner of the parking, or ask to Ivan to use this of the volonteer's building.
We use restroom at the entrance of the refugee (24h but no light in the night)

If u want to do a trip in the forest, see nice waterfall, learn about plants and animals, meet native people, Ivan could call a friend, Patricio, who was at the top (nativejunglecuador.com). 35$ per adult per day all included. half price for children

Our daugther (13y) worked at Los monos few days with others volonteers and it was the best experience you can imagine. Usualy, you have to stay at least one week for volonteer (look at website), but some others options are possible.

Of couse, u can only visit the refugee (3$/adult) : 50 monkeys, 5 species. Some parrots, pecaris, coatis, turtles, snakes, small fishes and a margay.
