Description

Nice, established campground in Glacier Natl. Park. About 6 miles from St. Mary’s on the east side, but doesn’t take reservations like St. Mary’s. When I was there, it was “hard sided only” because of a bear, so no tent campers were allowed, which meant it was pretty empty when I got here at 10am on a Friday in August, but it won’t always be that way, so I’d try to get here super early. Flush toilets and running sinks, potable water, dumpster. Pretty central to everything and has a nearby shuttle stop.

First come first serve campground! The site is never full. If you can’t get a reservation to drive the sun road just tell the ranger you are getting a site here. $20 per night. Showers are free at the St Mary campground. There is a size limit, no rigs over 25.

Spot 77 backs to a lovely cliff with oodles of purple wildflowers. Site is cozy and private enough yet also open to sky for StarLink.

Campground is open!! It’s first come first serve so get there early. I arrived around 10:45am and snagged one of the last spots. No vehicles over 21 feet allowed but they let my 22-foot motorhome slide. 1 bar of service, nice fire pits, fresh water, and a shuttle nearby!

This campground is currently closed. From the NPS: The St. Mary, Rising Sun and Cut Bank Campgrounds will not be open in the summer of 2021, due to staffing limitations resulting from ongoing COVID-19 mitigations.

Stayed here 2 nights. Had to get here early in am to get a spot. Only allow hard sided campers and small ones at that. Took shuttle to trails. Loved the beer at the camp store. They are no joke about not leaving trash in fire ring. We got a note as we left a cardboard bottle holder to use for fire at night. Nice talk by native american in the evening. Loved this place!
