Description

My favorite spot to camp in the area. Stunning views, lots of privacy, and peace and quiet. There are several spots along this road, some with better views, others with more tree coverage. Most have fire rings.

There are several paths in the area if you feel like doing some hiking.

The road gets worse the further along you go but it's possible to do with a car or van as long as you go very slow and pay attention to the ruts and rocks in the road.

Unless you have 4WD I wouldn't take any of the spurs off the road.

Nederland is 15 minutes away if you need supplies or cell service.

I live in this area so please be respectful with your fires. There's usually a non-potable water tank and jugs near the entrance provided by the local fire department to encourage you to fully put out your fire when you're done. Also, please pay attention to fire bans when they occur. This area has a very high risk for wildfires.

Nice spot near Nederland. Not a lot of tree coverage, but nice views. Numerous spots along the road, but they fill up fast. Road got a little rougher the further you drove. Ticks around. No service with Verizon.

Good spot. Windy and watch out for ticks! Went on a 5 minute walk and got 2 on me.
Leave it better than you found it

Beautiful place to stay! Plenty of space in between campsites, doesn’t feel crowded at all. Super quiet, the wind roars through the mountains and it’s crazy to hear.

Report Check-In

Very crowded area. Not too many spots to choose from. Road was very bumpy and potentially difficult to traverse after rain or snow. I got lucky and found a spot but it was close to other occupants.

Stunning views and peace and quiet. Got a little bit of snow cover through the night but just barely below freezing.

recommend SUV / Truck. 5-10 sights. beautiful views. was very windy in early April.

This spot was just up the Sugarloaf Rd/Forest service road 332 just before PeeWink maintain. This was on the north side of the road and if you drive back past the entrance there is plenty of tree cover and a fire pit. Just beware of the local "Karen" and her husband if you decide to have a campfire. There were no fire restrictions in place but just be forwarned she may visit. Other than that, the views and seclusion was amazing. Lots of hiking trails and more camp spots further up and below. Gets windy so this spot was the best for our RTT but others will have better views if you go further down. For being end of Nov, there was no snow and roads were clear. No issues with the roads but they are rocky and potholes so go slow.

Beautiful area. Was very crowded and I felt lucky to find a spot. This road pushes the limit of what a Subaru Outback can handle. I scraped the bottom a few times while moving very slowly.

4WD should be required. Bit bumpy but more spots as you continue down the road.

camping in the shade surrounded by nature

Stayed here on a Saturday, lots of traffic driving by until sunset. Was alone in this spot until I fell asleep and a van slept in the same field as me but gave enough space to maintain privacy.

Gorgeous! and many spots available on a rainy Memorial Day.

Report Check-In

Good spot, plenty of good camping spots. Stay away from grassy areas, ticks are around.

We stayed here for several nights, absolutely gorgeous views! Road is a bit rough as you go deeper in, but I saw plenty of sedans driving through. Just drive slow and you'll make it. Definitely plan to come back here!

Great spot, and good views. Grassy areas had some ticks.

Report Check-In

Lots of great campsites along the road, some with amazing mountain views. Road is narrow but not too rocky.

I can’t say enough good things about this spot! It’s absolutely perfect - easy to access for all vehicle types, beautiful views, lots of privacy, great parking spots. There are easily 10-15 parking spots scattered apart along this road, all far enough apart that you aren’t close to any other people. There’s not much cell service, but you’re just a short drive away from Nederland where there is. Loved it here!

Came in after dark, and ended up waking up to beautiful views. We were told our site was the ‘views’ site. Loved it. Quiet, but still people dispersed if need be. Little to no cell service.
The road reviews had us worried, especially after dark; but it was dry, and we went slow. Strap your stuff down and make sure to have enough clearance. Plenty of SUVs and Vans made it though. We have a 2019 Ram Promaster 136”.

Stayed 2 nights here, each in a different spot. Beautiful and quiet area, awesome views of the mountains. Long road with a ton of different camp spots. The road is rough but a local mentioned it was grated recently, so if you take it slow almost any vehicle can make it pretty far down now. We did fine in our campervan. Some spots had glass and garbage around so just be aware of that especially if you have kids or dogs. Remember, leave it cleaner than you found it! Nederland is very close by and an awesome little town. Grocery store has water refill and decent prices.

Great views and lots of campsites right off the road. The road gets a little dicey but if you take your time you’ll make it. We came out in our Fwd camper van and it did fine.

Great quiet spot outside of Boulder. don't take anything without high clearance down this road beyond the first two spots. Some deep dirt that my promaster didn't like around spot three. Amazing star views.

Very nice spots close Boulder. One thing I might mention is, if you’re using the coordinates to get there in apple maps, it stops you way down the mountain a bit after Sugar Loaf road turns to dirt. I dropped a pin at the entrance to the campsite, the coordinates are N 39 59’ 59.3” E -105 28’ 16.8”

We were in a ‘15 Subaru Outback and drove all the main roads and a couple of the side roads. The main road all the way back gets pretty rough, my wife was not a fan, but it’s definitely doable in a Subaru or similar AWD vehicle as long as there is no rain in the forecast. That would change things substantially.
