Description

There are 17 sites in 3 rough groups at the entry/base to Shadow Mountain dispersed camping area. Only the first group has outhouses. These will usually get filled up quickly as they're easily accessible to any vehicle.

There are 32 other sites spread out along the road that goes up the mountain. While driving up the road can give you nicer views and more secluded spots. Be careful, when wet it gets muddy, if you drive up the mountain.

A sign near the entrance has a map showing where all the sites are.

beautiful view of the Teton range from here. very busy so come early if you want to get a spot. some are tent only. clean pit toilets

Report Check-In

all sites at the base were full by 2pm. plenty of beautiful spaces up the mountain, and my 2wd van made it up just fine, but I didn't stay because there was several days of rain and snow in the forecast and I wasn't sure if I'd make it back down.

Report Check-In

Very nice, great view of the Tetons. Dirt road but not too bad

Report Check-In

pulled in around 2:30pm on a saturday and there were only 2 spots open on the lower set of sites & we pulled in at 4:30pm on a sunday and there was only 1 spot open. there is a tent only section for those not traveling in a van or RV. free and quiet, pretty view of the Teton’s from most sites, 5 day limit during peak season. pit toilet in the first circle of sites. at&t has 3G to 1 bar LTE depending where you’re at, so enough to receive and send texts/phone calls, but not really enough for social media or internet. on the drive up, there was a bull moose snacking within an aspen grove!

Report Check-In

Amazing free campground to stay! Clean pit toilets, wonderful view of the Tetons and very quiet. We went all the way up to see the spots and we’re able to get in our 2wd van.

Report Check-In

Free camp sites scattered across the bridger teton forest.

Report Check-In

This is a free campground in the national forest. Seems FCFS, so fills up quick. The bottom area has spots. I drove up the road some and there was a turn off that had a few more spots. I was the first one then it filled up with others. There are fire rings, minimal service, but safe and pretty. There was a ranger who came around and marked people were in the spots.

There are 17 sites in 3 rough groupings at the entry to Shadow Mountain dispersed camping area. Only the first loop has outhouses. Roughly another dozen spread out along the road that goes up the mountain. A sign near the entrance has a map showing where all the sites are.

Report Check-In

Roads were muddy but easily passable. Decent T-Mobile service. I arrived at 830 on a Tuesday and the entire place was full. Luckily some kind folks let me squeeze into their spot. Beautiful view.

Report Check-In

Dog owners letting dogs run thru other people's site without having any idea where their dogs are. I have a rescued bait dog and these campers are clearly tourists/weekenders with no regard for other campers space. Would not recommend it if you live on the road. Would recommend if you are in the outdoors with no idea what you're doing.

Report Check-In

road in to campsite is impassable as of 5/7. snowmelt and mud

Report Check-In

Best view of the Tetons! Stayed for two nights. Camping spots in a big circle, was pretty busy when we were there but still some privacy. Fire pits at every spot.
Good Verizon service, spotty AT&T
Pit toilets and a 15 minute drive to Teton Nat Park

Report Check-In

Spot 7

Has a fire pit and two vaulted toilets. Very clean area. Free

Report Check-In

Easy access for the first set of lots, if you go further into the mountain it is a bumpy Ricky road and you’ll need clearance. Great views at the bottom lots and easy to get too.

Report Check-In

Beautiful view of the Tetons, busy spot but a lot of cool people. Easy access for any vehicle unless you go further into the mountain it is Rocky road, need good clearance, some amazing campsites with a view up there

Report Check-In

Two lots across from Tetons. First is for camping vehicles. Second is ground tents only. Best view in the park of the Tetons

Report Check-In

Nice area. One clean pit toilet. Easy access to Teton National Park and South entrance to Yellowstone National Park. It’s technically in the Tetons Park. Lots of mosquitos in the evening and morning. Lots of flys during the daytime. 30 minutes north of Jackson. Seems pretty busy as are most free spots it seems so I don’t recommend showing up in the evening expecting a spot. There are black bears, moose and other wild life in the area so be aware and keep your spot clean when you leave for the day. There are a handful of good trailer spots, and plenty for tent and van campers. The mosquitos mean business.

Report Check-In

crowded and not the best att coverage but the views of the tetons are incredible and there are pit toilets.

Report Check-In

WOW!!! Amazing views!!! We arrived around 9 pm on Friday night and got super lucky with a spot. Some kind people gave us their spot because their friends didn’t show up. What a blessing. This place is highly sought after and coming early is recommended. It’s unfortunate that people dib their spots by using a camp chair 🙄. Also unfortunate that people don’t share their spot given that this is a BLM.

Report Check-In

Kind of annoyed. Showed up early afternoon and no spots were available. People will leave a single folding chair or jug of water in a spot and reserve it. About 1/3 of the sites were like this. Very pretty views I just wish the forest service wouldn’t let people reserve sites like that.

Report Check-In

place near grand Teton, perfect views. there is a latrine bathroom, you can only camp in assigned places so you have to arrive early, I arrived around noon and there were a couple of places. maximum 5 days of stay

Report Check-In

Amazing view of the Tetons! Get here earlier than I'd say 5pm on the weekdays cause it fills up fast! I was able to get to the spots at the base of the mountain with my 2WD van! stayed here for 2 nights. Saw a few red foxes pass by and heard there was a black bear around but didn't see it. I had 4 bars 5g service with tmobile! It's Free and an amazing spot!

Report Check-In

Quiet spot with a great view of the mountains. 24.2mbps download and 2.16mbps upload on Google Fi on 5G

Report Check-In

Great spot near the NPS. We arrived at 4 pm and got the last spot. Arrive early :)
Bathroom were closed

Report Check-In

Only went about halfway up. The lower part is very bumpy but should be passable by almost anything. It gets muddy (the issue is that it’s clay and very slippery) and off-camber and vehicles without 4WD probably shouldn’t continue once it gets muddy. Most sites I passed were empty.

Report Check-In

Only a few campsites, no water or trash but it’s a label place to park and relatively quiet

Report Check-In

Easy to get to. Big rigs can get here easily. Has a bathroom and 7 spots.

Report Check-In

5 day stay free camping. First lot has around 7 sites all with awesome views of Grand Teton. Two put toilets that are fairly clean, donations help keep them that way 🤗 close to town and all the fun things to do in the area. Love places like this! Tents, RVs, and Vans allowed.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot with amazing - amazing! - views of the Tetons. In high demand but totally worth it. Arrive early and put down your tent before starting your day out. You won't regret it.

Report Check-In

GOOD LUCK! went up the tough road everyday for 4 days straight all at various times & various weather conditions to TRY and get a spot, people are so reluctant to share they leave chairs/rocks/other stuff on the ‘driveway’ to prevent people from pulling up, i can definitely respect one’s privacy and i don’t love the idea of sharing either but there is simply nowhere for people to go, we tried various other spots listed on iOverlander with no luck, many people are camping on NPS pull-offs just to have somewhere to park.

Report Check-In

Stayed here the week after memorial day. Five day stay. Only place we could get good reception. Got very busy at the bottom, took us three trys to get a spot. Stayed one night up the mountain. Ranger said they just redid road so its better now.
After a couple days it wasnt busy at all. Would stay here again.

Report Check-In

Highly desired campsites. We stayed at ground level looking across an open field directly at the Tetons, with the added bonus of gravel road (less dust) and having 2 portapotties nearby that are regularly cleaned and stocked. Stand toilets are reportedly being installed on June 16th at ground level, with removal of the portapotties. Multiple other sites are further up the mountain with no toilets up there, and a dirt road that was recently graded but reportedly gets difficult to navigate if recent heavy rain. There are no garbage containers any where, so expect to pack out your garbage. Adequate rock fire pits. Campsites and parking are not entirely level, but you can’t beat the view. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Only a 10-15 minute drive to the Moose (south) park entrance (longer if you take a spot off the dirt road further up the mountain). Jackson Hole airport is very close. Jackson Hole city is only 12 miles south of the Moose entrance to the park.

Report Check-In

Couldn't get there in our 27ft class C motorhome. The road getting there is dirt and had snow on it still. There's also a small river of water running down the road from snowmelt. If you are 4x4 you will be fine getting here.

Report Check-In

Great free campground at the base of Shadow Mountain. easy access in and can accommodate rigs of all sizes. it's about a 15 min drive to the park entrance, beautiful views of the Tetons and decent Verizon service. there are porta-potties in the first loop. we stayed in site 15a (third loop) and loved it. 5 days max until Labor Day, 16 post Labor Day.

Report Check-In

These are the camp spots available at the base of shadow mountain. There’s an entry for spots all the way at the top. There’s probably around 10 spots at the base of the mountain. These will usually get filled up immediately while driving up the road can give you nicer views and more secluded spots. Be careful, when wet it gets pretty muddy if you drive up the mountain.

Report Check-In

Accessible by 2WD car. Sites at base of mountain, perfect view over the field to the Tetons
