Description

Wild Dog Conservation Center near the Hwange National Park. Modern and interesting Museum covering the Life of Painted Dogs. They also have a modern Wild Dog Hospital where they treat sick or insured Wild Dogs from the Park. You are guaranteed to see at least the permanent Resident. It's a good chance to meet these beautiful and endangered Animals. Furthermore; there is another huge fenced Area that helps the treated Dogs get used to the Wild again (empty at the Moment). Visiting is free but they ask you to donate a small Amount of Money or to buy something from their Craft Shop (Wire Dogs made from destroyed Poaching Traps for Example). Very friendly and helpful Staff. As it's close to the Main Road between Bulawayo/Vic Falls it's worth having a short break here.

Very nice! Only one permanent painted dog at the moment because she was attacked by a lion but the exhibition part and gift shop are nice!

Very nice center. Very informative and good information center with the permanent exhibition. We saw 2 resident wild dogs at the rehabilitation area. No entrance fee, but they encourage a donation or you can buy something from the gift shop. Very friendly and nice staff. We recommend to visit here on your way to/from Hwange.

This place has truly inspired it's local community. We spoke to 2 men who told us they had visited in their youth, this changed their life and made them choose to work with wildlife. Kelvin was very informative, it was incredible to see Lucky and Peanuts the two resident dogs on site. We would have loved to have seen the pack and their puppies but understand they must limit their exposure to humans. Wonderful work and well kept facility.

Great displays on the story behind the endangered painted dogs. They released their most recent dogs four months ago and there are none here at the moment. interesting place and very well done but you can't help but wonder if all this donated money could go to a better cause in Zimbabwe.

Hwange NP, Wild Dog rehabilitation center. Small center that only sheltered two dogs that will never be released when we visited.
