Uzbekistan
About 1 kilometer west of the main road stands an ancient tower of silence. These towers were built by zoroastriens for their sky burials, giving the dead bodies to the vultures. Although the ruins are in far worse shape than the towers of silence in Yazd (Iran), it’s worth to stop on your way to Moynaq. You have also a nice view over the Amu-Darya riverbed.
Entrance is free, but they are working on a concrete stairs so I expect that a small entrance fee will be asked in the future.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Now costs 10,000 som. There is a toilet and a small rest area. The turn off can be tricky to spot due to the road woes going on. About 2km of BUMPY road but no major concern.
Concrete steps have been completed but only take you to the base of the tower. A wee bit of a “climb” to actually enter
