Description
there have been reports of aggressive locals lately. Some tourists and their cars (Russian and German) were attacked by locals the police told us. Ask around before you take this road and/or just pay them if they stop you at the roadblocks.

Still road blockage. Not able to pass through town at all, had to return back to San Christobal. We asked locals and they do not know for how much longer the road will be blocked.

Report Check-InPassed without any problem on motorcycle from Palenque to San Cristobal between 9am and 2pm. Only about 50km after Palenke there were 2 women and boy with a rope. Wanted 20mex i gave 10mex.
Report Check-InWe drove from Palenque to San Cristobal today. Checked in with GN and policia estatal in Palenque who told us route is now open and safe. GN told us to only drive during day.
We left Palenque at 11am and got to San Cristobal at about 530pm. The drive was beautiful but not my favorite. About 40km outside Palenque we encountered 4 ropes with people demanding we buy their dried plaintains or pay them a 50p toll. We politely declined to pay or buy and instead gave the kids at the rope a few stickers. After about 2 minutes of holding our ground, they relented and dropped the ropes.
A bit closer to Ososingo there was a bunch of construction with up to 20m delays.
From Ososingo to Guadelupe there are at least 200 topes. It's the worst tope section of road I've driven. There are some parts of the road where there is a poorly engineered and rough tope ever 50m. Its extremely annoying.
However besides the agressive vendors with the ropes near Palenque, we had no issues with safety, corruption, or locals demanding tolls.
This road is passable again. Just check with the local cops and other travelers before you go.

Report Check-InWe tried to use this road this morning but the police did stop us. We had to turn back and take the long way to Villahermosa, 5 hours longer but a priori safer.
Report Check-InWhen we left San Cristobal we we're stopped by the police. They strongly advised us to not go through this town and instead go to Chanal (road south of the 199) instead. There has been several problems last weeks with locals being aggressive towards tourists.
We're are not sure if this is always the case but there have been some problems lately. ask around before you go here.
Report Check-InActive again. We passed the road block around 18:00. Locals with a rope and a wood plate with nails asked for 50 pesos. Not negotiable. Everyone had to pay, even mexican busses and trucks.

Report Check-InI was driving from palenque to San cristobal and was stopped by the cartel road block. They would not let us pass. This was at 7 pm and the entire town was very sketchy. We ended up connecting with others needing to go to San cristobal and had to take a 3 hours dangerous detour.
Report Check-InNo road block today! We left San Christobal on a rainy, foggy and missable Wednesday around 8am and had no issues on our way to Tonina.
