Description

Appears to be an abandoned campground. Sign at entrance to access lane says “Sleepy Cove”. Entrance just minutes from Long point lighthouse parking lot.

Beautiful views and hiking trails.

The nearby Crow's Nest Cafe is also really great! Super friendly people, great food/treats & coffee! The owner has a lot of knowledge of the area and seems to enjoy giving out tips of where to go and what to do if you need it. 10/10 would recommend this spot and spending some time wandering about on the cliffs.

Great cell reception too.

Abandoned RV/tenting campground.
A bit hard to find as the sign is gone.
Road a bit steep and washed out but we did ok with our 27’ 5th wheel.
Beautiful views, no facilities.

Report Check-In

Driving towards the lighthouse the lane way to this fabulous treasure is on your left just minutes before the lighthouse parking lot. Small older sign says ‘sleepy cove’. No fee as this appears to be an abandoned campsite. Even picnic tables left behind. Spacious. Amazing views and hiking trails. No services including no outhouses, but really good cell reception.

Report Check-In

perfect place. as described. full, yes, but oh so beautiful.

Report Check-In

Awesome place - perfect for overlanders of every type! Still abandoned and still free. Beautiful spot overlooking the ocean, plenty of space. Very clean. No toilets or facilities, so be prepared. Don’t miss this one!

Report Check-In

Rien à ajouter qui n'a pas été dit, c'est un super spot, très spacieux et avec une vue magnifique !
Attention à bien ramasser ses déchets (et ceux présents avant son arrivée).

Report Check-In

Amazing amazing amazing. We came in right as the sun was setting, we had rain but a beautiful sunset, rainbow, and whales!! Very busy, both locals and many campers. Suitable for any and all rigs as well as a few grassy spots for tents. Quiet and friendly spot!

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

A great if very busy spot. We saw an iceberg on the evening while we were here. Campers of all shapes and sizes visited. For slightly more ‘rugged’ and secluded spots, turn left up the gravel path at the entrance to get to the top of the hill where there are more spots.
Would highly recommend.

Report Check-In

Former campground and there were no fees to pay. An absolute gem! Our favourite place so far. Close to hiking trails, beautiful sunsets and watched 3 whales in the cove for over an hour. Whales also swim close to the walking trails along the cliffs. Could see tiny icebergs in the distance.

Report Check-In

Our favorite place so far, having dinner while watching icebergs breaking

Report Check-In

An abandoned campground overlooking Sleepy Cove. This is a free place to boondock with a huge parking lot for all types. There are also roads that lead up and down for more secluded spots. It has incredible views of the sea and small islands and some spectacular hiking trails. There are no services, restrooms, or trash bins. However, good cell and internet service. We stayed 3 wonderful nights watching the icebergs!

Report Check-In

Spent 4 days and nothing to pay.
One of my top 3.

Report Check-In

We were here on June 11, 2023, nothing and no one to pay. therefore Free.
Looks like an old campground or abandoned campground to me!
great place by the sea.

Report Check-In

Entrance to sleep Cove. Top notch spot to free camp. Beautiful views and we did it in a 24' RV no problem.

Report Check-In

Abandoned campground. Beautiful place with nice view and several walking trails. Lot's of place. But super windy

Report Check-In

Can't really add anything new to the list of posts. At the moment it is a free site. There are no operating bathrooms, the view is spectacular and there's great hiking around the cliffs and to the lighthouse. There are some levelled spots for rvs complete with picnic tables that are in good condition.

Report Check-In

Très bel endroit, tranquille et randonnées à proximité.

Report Check-In

No more sign for $25 and the rope fencing has been knocked down. The cabins are boarded up but the area lights still come on after sunset. No obvious sign of any toilets, looks like the owner abandoned the place. The garbage bin for the picnic area by the ocean is overflowing. Other than that it’s an amazing place, more like an unofficial campground, all kinds of rigs and places to park. Please pack out whatever you bring in.

Report Check-In

This site is amazing! Lots of space, easy access (Sleepy Cove Road), firepits and picnic tables! Locals mentioned it and said that the development of cabins stopped for unknown reasons. Amazing views and trails right here! Whales swimming between us and the island just offshore. Capelin all around. If you have off road vehicle you can climb higher on gravel road (see 2nd photo). There are several entries in iOverlander for the different areas here but you enter all of them using Sleepy Cove Road. The road forks as soon as you turn off the main road; to the right is main area, to the left is a climb to a high spot where we saw a camper truck.

Report Check-In

Magnificent spot. There doesn't seem to be any paid camping anymore.

Report Check-In

Sorry wrong location entered.. looks like a beautiful place to spend the night.

Report Check-In

endroit magnifique, vraiment incroyable , c'est vraiment vraiment trop beau ! la paix on était seul , beaucoup d'espace, c'est très venteux , ça vaut vraiment la peine d'y aller

Report Check-In

We stay 1 night at Sleepy Cove, a fee of 25$ is requested. No service only picnic table. Many hiking trail starting from the packing area. Very easy to access.

Report Check-In

We spent a night up the hill nearby the trails and the stairs. We had a lovely evening doing a campfire on the edge of the cliff just on the other side of the bushes.

There was several other RV around the free area and also within the paid area—although we slept in a tent. We decided to leave early so that we wouldn’t be in the way of hikers.

Much luv

Report Check-In

Great place.
Lots of trails.
It was cold… 8C at night.

Although we phone to let the owner know we were there no one came to collect the 25$

Report Check-In

They have starting charging $25 per night, sign went up last week. Someone comes around in the evening to collect, this only pertains to the gravel area This is for the area inside the blue rope fence area, to the right of the road driving in. The rest of the area is owned by the town and is free. we paid one night and then after talking to locals moved down by the beach for free. As previously mentioned they are building cottages and this may change in the future. Talked to person building them and does not think they will be operational this year.

Report Check-In

Absolute piece of earthly paradise. 25 dollar fee for a quiet spot with great view of the sea and stone throw away from nice cove and pebble beach.

Report Check-In

perfect spot. we stayed 2 nights. looks like they've started building little cabins here, but for now it's still good to stay. lots of room, picnic tables, fire pits and hiking trails

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot

Accessible beach

Quiet and clean

Parked up top of the road that goes east of the main parking area. Stayed 2 nights. Beautiful place

Very steep drive. Approach with caution in larger vehicles

Report Check-In

Excellent hiking trails here! And abundant room for lots of RV’s, leveled parking spots, picnic tables, fire pits. Great spot for our 30 ft motorhome for the night.

Report Check-In

One of the best spots I've camped in that I found on this app! Beautiful views and hiking trails. Only two other vehicles there when I stayed, no signs about payment or not so I don't know what that situation is. It may be different in the summer.

Report Check-In

Amazing spot with a beautiful sunset. I didn’t see any signs that said anything, even to pay 20$ on the honor system like other people said. I’d suspect in the busy season it would be full of rvs but I was all alone, in mid October. Watch out for the foxes!

Report Check-In

This is definitely a pay area. Signage says pay at small building.

Report Check-In

Beautiful place. If you have a tent, it's worth hiking over to the cliffs to pitch it up there. Sunsets are amazing

Report Check-In

Amazing spot with scenic vistas. Great hiking trails nearby. Beautiful place to spend a night.

Report Check-In

Great view. Picnic tables. Big enough for an RV.

Up the hill to the right there is a cool spot a 4x4 could get into.

Says it's $20 for the night on an honour system.

Report Check-In

Stayed two nights and it's one of the best places we have been to! Absolutly gorgeous view over the ocean! Feels like a real campground. There are also pit toilets (when you walk towards the stairs you see on the left side when entering the pit toilets are hidden in the buches on the right side)
A lot of beautiful hiking trails are starting here. You can even walk to the lighthouse (about 1km) were another trail beguins (behind the lighthouse). With the second trail you can hike a loop back to the campground witch is about 6km long in total and absolutly beautiful!! The last part is along the street but only about 5min, the rest of the trail is amazing and you should absolutly do it if you're staying here!

Report Check-In

Beautiful views, hiking trails, and no services. Have parked here 4 nights, usually 4 or 5 other trucks, vans, and rvs. No toilets, so only suitable for self-contained campers.

Report Check-In

Nice place! great view and also start for some hikes. there are no signs for a charge and also no payment machine or so.

Report Check-In

The view is wonderful! very quiet! you need to sleep here!

Report Check-In

Beautiful overlooking the ocean. Great sunset spot so it’s a busy with people coming and going but very quiet once dark. Quite windy being right on the water. Stayed with 6 other campers with plenty of space for all. No indication that payment is being taken/required on an honour system as there’s nowhere to put the money..

Report Check-In

Beautiful location. I don't see any indication that there is an honour system for payments.

Report Check-In

Good spot, plenty space to pitch a tent.
There was a few RVs that night.
Very close to the sea, plus few hikes from there (we saw iceberg and whales).
Toilet were locked.
there is a sign for $20 per night for RV on the honor system.

Report Check-In

great ocean side campground. Many hiking trails.

Report Check-In

Notice: Signs appeared today (Sept 16, 2018) that there is now a $20/night fee for RV camping here. It is on the “honour system.”

Report Check-In

As it was written on earlier comments, it's THE free place to be in the area. It was either a campground before or it will be soon.
Officially divided into 5 or 6 spots with picnic tables and fire pits, but lots of space to share around.
No garbage bins.
Pit toilet is creepy but functional.
Certainly tent friendly.

Because there's a dump station and fresh water in town, I give it a five star.

Report Check-In

Amazing place to stay.. life is good
I would stay here anytime

Report Check-In

simply stunning views...no icebergs anymore, lots of foxes at dusk

Report Check-In

Amazing place. Old campsite but now free. Fire pits and picnic tables and an old toilet house (up on the left side of the hill- take toilet paper). Great place to watch the sunset! Some other campers around

Report Check-In

Awesome!!! this is the best spot!
firepits
picnic tables
sunset
quite
just missing the toilets

Report Check-In

A good night watching icebergs...which are far from the coast. Quite and very nice place without any service.

Report Check-In

Stunning place, incredible view over plenty of icebergs, pic nic tables, really looks like they are planning a campground here...still free, watch for wildlife!!!

Report Check-In

Great view and a peaceful night. However, recent improvements indicate this will become a paid RV park in the near future.

Report Check-In

This is Sleepy Cove in Crows Head. This is not in Tilting. This is an old copper mine and park. Current owner was fine with us wild camping. There are No amenities. Minimal use, mainly as trail head parking and for the great sunsets. Very quite with beautiful views and great hiking trails. Easy 2k hike along cliffs to Long Point light house

Report Check-In

Very nice quiet place to sleep directly on the sea!
