**FS Roads close in winter and early spring for seasonal weather closure. (Still open November 25, 2023 with lows of 18 degrees in Flagstaff)
.....
Just north off Vista View, it's an old BLM campground, no water, no toilet. there are 4 different areas with easily 20 sites each. quiet, clean. Very good place.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Stopped a couple of nights. Very quiet and would certainly use again.
Report Check-InStayed here another few nights and it wa snuck quieter. A good free spot. Definitely easy to find a space to sleep this time of year, was mostly empty.
Report Check-InOne of the few spots open between Sedona and Flagstaff as designated campgrounds close from October to April. 18 degrees at night and snow on side of highways but still accessible. No toilet/water, but you can have a fire here. Lots of campers/vans but also big parties of people. Don’t expect to be alone/it to be quiet. Really decent cell service for both Verizon and AT&T!
Report Check-InGreat area! very pretty and tons of sites. I don't get the sites too close together vibe at all, but people could park multiple to a site I guess. only 4 campers on a Friday night. winding down before winter season I'm guessing.
Report Check-InThese spots are VERY close together. Some of them have cars parked within an arm's length of each other. Great for a free campground feel, minus the facilities. If you prefer privacy, avoid.
Report Check-InThis place is great. I was here on the weekend so it was busy and loud. It’s so beautiful. I have tried a weekday but I bet it would be significantly more peaceful.
Report Check-Invery nice spacious camp in the pines.6 sites occupied on Wednesday June 28 2023. our site is leveled. cool temperature compared to Sedona as it at 6400 ft!
Report Check-InThere’s 4 lots with around 20 sites. Not all are level but you can find some that are. There were some cute cows grazing by us when we arrived and they later left. Quiet, calm, pretty spaced out. Most sites have a makeshift campfire with stones/rocks and you can gather wood from around the ground. Starlink works if you’re not parked between trees, I have AT&T and got lower bars as I headed down the lots. Currently in lot 4 and have 1 bar LTE but enough to share this review! :D it’s lovely & very spacious. Stayed here 2 nights, campfires both nights & packing in and packing out. Make sure you take your trash!
Report Check-InGreat Camping location! plenty of sites. some not so even. had no issues with the roads. even good hammock trees!
Report Check-Inas advertised! great free spot to spend a few days. bumpy road but our converted ambulance made it just fine.
Report Check-Inpart 2: Monday morning by 8:30am very few people camping only spent the night but great site. we'll be coming back. Not very leveled is the only issue
Report Check-Inbumpy road but passable with our 20ft travel trailer. Tight spots to get into but found a spot to spend the night. Quite and modestly full for a Sunday.
Report Check-Ineasy to access in my sprinter 170 ext. 4 groups of campsites with fire pits. the road is a little bumpy but easily accessible.
Report Check-InCan confirm as we just drove by this road and multiple others on 89A, this is still closed for the season. Beautiful scenic drive though!
Report Check-InCan confirm that this road and other sites nearby are closed right now due to snow!
Report Check-InGreat spot not far off the highway and puts you in range to easily explore Flagstaff or Sedona. Clean and quiet. Can be hard to find a level spot but there are some. Road was a little rocky but high clearance and 4wd not necessary from the AZ89 side. Little rougher on the I17 side.
Report Check-InStayed for two nights in loop 4 with no issues. Neighbors were a little closer than we'd like, but it was a beautiful forest area. Verizon reception was ok (1-2 bars). So much toilet paper around and some garbage. A group of people volunteering for the forest came to clean up the area which was so wonderful to see! We came on a Monday and most of the spots were taken surprisingly, but we found a good spot eventually!
Report Check-InEasy to get to, great cell service (AT&T and Verizon). Nice stone built fire place. Spotted a few dogs off leash. The people here seemed sketchy and odd. The man across the way from us told us that he's been living here out of his car here for a year now. In the morning a woman greeted us and told us that a lady died in the park and they were practicing shamanism. It was a quiet night but the people we encountered were interesting...
Report Check-InI second that it is very quiet during the week. People showed up in droves on Friday and all sites are now taken. Nearest neighbor is about 40 feet away. ATVs, generators and gunshots on the weekends. Beautifully clean campsites though.
Report Check-InI love it, here, in the Ponderosa pine forest after being in the hot, gorgeous desert by Sedona for 5 days. Higher elevation, cooler temps, tall trees with shade and no dust or red rock dirt. Just as beautiful but in a different way. I see no trash, very clean. It is so quiet, even with other campers. Room for everyone, spread far apart. These are numbered, designated spots, not dispersed. Do not camp just anywhere you please. We are a society here, please respect it and let the wild areas alone to regrow. And we asked 2 people to put out large campfires as theqq Tunnel fire is burning 30 minutes away. It is really dry right now. There is a burn ban going on in AZ and NM and signs with restrictions are posted. People are crazy.
Report Check-InGreat place, all 4 loops open. Beautiful, level numbered sites in Loop 4.
Report Check-InAll of the local forest roads to Flagstaff here that we checked are still closed for the season.
Report Check-InThis site is not permanently closed as stated in the description. I believe closures are in effect for mud season to keep people from tearing up the roads and campsites. Great place to grab a spot for the night while exploring Flagstaff or Sedona! But please, pack out your trash!!!
Report Check-InRoad is now open and in great condition, plenty of space, quiet in Ponderosa pine forest. A little dirty, bring a trash bag and help clean up a little. Always check the Forest Service website for road status.
Report Check-InI am here now, along with about 15 other, very quiet, campers. Lovely place. Shaded and filtered light through mostly pine forest canopy.
Report Check-InRoad is closed as of writing for all sites in this area, including the one closer to Sedona. These are forest service roads and seem to be very muddy and under seasonal closing.
Report Check-InAttempted to enter this group of sites on Wednesday March 3rd 2021 but a gate was blocking the road. The gate sign said “road closed authorized vehicles only” with no other reason/hours posted.
Report Check-InRoads weren't as rough as the spots across the road, so we went here! Not as secluded, but beautiful! Definitely recommend!
Report Check-InGreat boon docking experience. Was able to find a spot at designated campsite 309 that was pretty isolated and quiet from other campers. We drive a 25 ft Class C that got down the dirt road with no problem. I would definitely stay here again. Also close to MTB trail “Kelly Pocket” that I will ride as well. Download trailforks app for MTB trail systems.
Report Check-InNice place but there is so much toilet paper around the trees. It’s horrible
Report Check-InThis was perfect! I needed a place enroute to Sedona. Lots of spaces and very quiet.
Report Check-InThis was perfect! I needed a place enroute to Sedona. Lots of spaces and very quiet.
Report Check-InQuiet, a few open spaces, ok view. . Very relaxing and off the beaten path
Report Check-In4 big loops with 10-20 spots on each loop.
Pretty easy dirt road with some rocky sections.
We stayed on loop 2 but later noticed loop 4 has very nice and flat spots in the middle section.
Zero road noise, super peaceful.
Good Verizon coverage which was surprising.
We did a nice trail run down and past a small rocky dry creek.
Very pretty area but no vistas or views.
Sites scattered in groups. There are no facilities but it’s a good place to camp. Please, please, please pack our waste and do not leave toilet paper lying around! Was a bit chilly for the time of year. Overall a good camp spot.
Report Check-InNot exactly ‘wild camping’, but at least 30 potential spots with plenty of space in between!
Report Check-InSite was great. Very strick to campfire. Gave us a ticket to appear in federal court. Had a very small campfire to make our food at 9:00 and ranger was not thrilled even tho we could not have been more apologetic and respectful.
Report Check-InNice quiet during week , weekends busy loud generators and lots of traffic
Report Check-InJust north off vista view, it's an old campground in the BLM, free, no wather, no toilet. there is 4 different aera with easely 20 sites each. quiet clean. Very good place.
