Description

Amazing spots right off highway 30 on a well maintained gravel road! We drove about 1/2 mile to the first clearing which is large enough for just about any size motor home. The location has several more camping locations further down the road. You can hear some highway noise at night but it isn’t bad at all.

Official rules state you can tent camp for one night without any permit, but rv/vehicle camping requires obtaining a free permit by calling the state park office at (814)735-2011

This is a wild camp site so no toilets, garbage, or services are available. There is a picnic area on highway 30 about 1 mile away with outhouses for an emergency

Amazing spot. Lots of room. Quiet with good Verizon signal

Report Check-In

Had a peaceful night in the woods, feels really safe and the gravel road into the wood is well maintained

Report Check-In

Nice spot not too far off highway! Still secluded, only one car passed us the entire night. Room for maybe one or two cars + tents.

great spots. didn't deserve, pulled in after sunset Sunday night and had no issues. beautiful spot.

Report Check-In

As previously described, however we drove the gravel road about a mile for our perfect spot.

Report Check-In

nice large site (SH16). stone fire pit. 3 bars of T-mobile 5g. called to get a permit but no answer. left a VM.

Nice peaceful site but you can hear the freeway in the distance. It has rained recently so there was some mud and a puddle. I set up on the gravel enterence way which was lice and level. A couple cars came whizzing by in the morning.

Half a mile further down the road there are some new looking no camping signs nailed to the trees that seem to be associated with a current logging operation.

Great site for an overnight stopover.

Report Check-In

Quiet, beautiful spot with secluded campsites for free. No facilities, large sites. Stayed for two nights and didn’t see anyone except the forest ranger who drove thru once. Just me sure to email or call the ranger office to notify them of your stay.

Report Check-In

Several pulloffs along Akersville Rd. Quiet area, wooded and private. Fire rings in most camp sites that we saw.
Per the website, you are supposed to mail in a camping permit and then call the ranger's office to get permission for camping, though they are only open Mon-Fri. We came on a Friday evening and stayed through the weekend without a permit with no problems, but of course you should always follow the rules and get appropriate permits.

Report Check-In

Nice spot, nobody else around. Some pull outs are more private than others. It looks like there are some walking trails in the area but we haven’t checked them out yet. We tried calling ahead for a permit but nobody answered.
