highly recommend 4x4 and good recovery gear. the actual road is somewhat hard packed but some soft spots. everything off the road is extremely soft dirt. spent 6 hours trying everything to dig out my sprinter this morning before finally caving and paying $200 for a tow truck to come pull me back on to the road.
bummer because it's a gorgeous view of the mountains, most the trees are burnt though. never dealt with so many flies in my life

super sandy drive in. would be fine with a lifted car. lowered audi and scraped a couple times, had to go slow but made it. only saw a couple cars pass by. really pretty mountain view’s and mostly isolated. definitely will come again

Great views. Great Sprint reception. Sandy drive in. Had no problem when dry. Saw 4 cars. Windy during the day. Watch out for the ant, as when you step in their home, they will want to crawl up your legs but no bites. Sappy trees. Some road noise, occasional train.

This place is amazing. Beautiful and quiet- you can hear some trains in distance and occasionally highway noise but it is very peaceful and

No problem in a 2ed e-350 camper van amazing views

Report Check-In

Actually part of Shasta-Trinity NF. Just a few feet off the forest road. About a mi. off Hwy 97 and ½ mi. from the train tracks so there is a little noise from that. There is a small system of trails (old unused forest roads) that wind up and around Haystack mountain nearby. Lovely view of Mt Shasta.
