Latest Check-Ins

The place is really destroyed. All doors are missing, so the whole thing is a fly fest. Would not recommend staying the night if not really hard-pressed. Might be worthy to note that on the ground around the shelter and bus stop there is plenty of glass laying around, so be careful with tents ⛺️.

Report Check-In

The shelter is destroyed but you can climb and sleep on the second floor (there are some panels blocking the wind). Not the best, but for 1 night was ok (as we are doing from south to north, the wind was hard and we couldn’t make to the next point in IOverlander, a farm). It can save you, but again, it is destroyed with some protection.

Report Check-In

Half destroyed shelter, very windy inside since all doors and windows are gone. The toilet is inside so the place really stinks. Bummer! We stopped here for lunch and it wasn’t very pleasant.

Next to this destroyed shelter there’s a little bus stop. It’s very small but better protected for the wind if you’re looking for a lunch stop. You might be able to sleep there but it’s quite small and no door

Report Check-In

Recommended only in emengency cases - No door, one wall Missing. Window more ore less repaired. we didn't stay Here.

Report Check-In

Unfortunately, the hut was pretty much destroyed, no windows, doors etc. Still usable as an emergency shelter.

Report Check-In

new door to the north for wind protection and and window to west is 90% covered now. could definitely spend a night here if you need. anyway it is 100% better than refugio2 which smells bad with broken glass everywhere.

Report Check-In

Bench inside, but no windows and no doors so no wind protection. Ladder to loft is missing so no chance to sleep upstairs. Pity, it could be such a nice place

Report Check-In

The refugio looks still cleanish. Unfortunately for us a bunch of wasps have made a nest inside. We just pitched the tent outside (good weather).
View is amazing!

Report Check-In

Sorry, my mistake, I was talking of the "Refugio 2"...
Here the table/bench is gone, the windows are destroyed but it was cleaned when we stopped by. Still better than nothing if there is a lot of wind or rain...

Report Check-In

We stopped by, all the windows are broken, there is glass and garbage everywhere... It's so sad to see this comfy place destroyed :(
It could still be useful if you there in a big storm and really need a roof, but a lot of cleaning to do...

Report Check-In

Really nice place to stay. Please keep it clean.

Report Check-In

No wood stove . stolen? small but good place to stay one night.

Report Check-In

stayed here overnight. the shelter is still in good condition. someone was already there when we arrived so we pitched the tent in the back.

Report Check-In

I was cycling south from Ecuador. I overnighted in this modern small Refugio, which appeared to have been built to help cyclists and other slow travelers. Indoor sleep space in loft for max 1 small tent or for 3 sleeping bags, plus 1-2 sleeping bags on floor downstairs (with a squeeze). Seating for 6-8 persons. Sheltered campsite on E. side. No water, the last being at a small stream 20 km W. Pit toilet next door. Good views south. Many horseflies inside. I killed as many as I could and then swept the dead bugs and dust out the door.

Recycle bins outside were overflowing . It seemed as if Porvenir was not doing its duty and maintaining these refugios.

Report Check-In

Brand new shelter / refugio to stay overnight. Pit toilet and a place to sleep in top of the shelter are available. There was a woodstove as well it was gone already. (stolen?)
