Several spots to camp directly at the Rim (Rim Forest Road No 300) with an incredible view - Wow! Some existing firerings and we had AT&T connection but other than that no infrastructure. Very quiet and be aware that you are in š» country. Free! Recommended.

Update: Turns out the āno roadside campingā signs are a mile or two on either side of the campground. Loads of people camped in the woods Saturday morning.
Report Check-InGoogle maps will chart the course then offer āshorter routesā First stop was a horse ranch in Peyton. š¤·š¼āāļø Repeatedly Google tried to go anywhere but here. Had to use a road map, what a novel idea.
So Hwy 87 to rim road.
About two miles before the official campground on the dirt rim road 300 there was a sign that said āNo roadside camping past this point.ā Still several fire rings here so Iām giving it a shot. Donāt like the stress of someone telling me I have to leave late in the eveningā¦ Crappy campground just down the road.
great views, gets windy. AT&T and Verizon 2 bars. Take your garbage with you
Report Check-InSuch a beautiful place, amazing views, great sunset and sunrise. We had decent Verizon service.
It was easy to get to, the forest road is well maintained we have seen all sort of vehicles out here. We are with several vehicles from a large 4x4 rig to a dodge van. We've even seen a sedan heading down the road toward the lake. We are staying about 10 miles down the dirt road.
Cons:
It's so cold right now. Gets down in the 20s during the night and there has been some wind. I assume that's seasonal weather.
Great spot. Room for a few vehicles. Amazing view and stargazing. Good signal for Verizon. No problem accessing in 2016 Transit.
