But beware because it's temporarily closed for maintenance!! For a year!

Alto de los Idolos was open. Very well kept grounds. Worth the drive to see the states and tombs for an hour.
Easy drive to get there.
It is one of the 3 sites included in the San Augustín archaeological pass. It's my favorite site, there is no one there and the site is well presented. The statues and tombs are superb! It is certainly possible to sleep in the parking lot but it is close to the road.
Report Check-InPlace is open and entrance fee is included in the Passport you receive at the San Augustin site.
