Something not right?

Description

In the neighbourhood of the war memorial you find excellent spots to camp. Follow the signs from the mainroad Arica - Iquique. The unpaved entry road is in good condition. Accaseble for all rigs. Be a bit careful: you will see some holes and dipa in the landscape. They are the result of some old underground river activity. Don't put your car too close to those spots.

We stayed 1 night here. It was quiet, but windy. Nobody else there. Toilets were open but not clean enough to use. To us it was not worth it to stay here.

Perfect place. No facilities, no signal 3G. Restrooms are closed/destroyed. Wind during the day but when the sun goes down it’s perfect. Very nice spot for silence and stars in the sky. Watch out for holes and old pieces of metal on the ground.

Totally silent at night. Can't remember the last time I experienced this.

Nice place to camp, away from the road and in the middle of ruins. Be careful when driving there are deep holes in the ground.

big flat area to stop for the night, toilets locked and no water. we were awoken at 11:30pm by extreme winds, and a light panning across our tent. it turns out there's an old helipad next to the parking area and a military helicopter was hovering 30m above us, almost blowing the roof tent off the car! after 20mins they spotted us right next to them and flew off thankfully to practice drills elsewhere. I can't imagine this is a regular occurrence so don't discount the spot on our experiences... amusing in hindsight!

In the afternoon very windy but calm and quiet during the night. Nice shaded picnic area, with tables and benches. Unfortunately, no water in toilet building and bowls full to the brim.

We came here after trying the place near the 'gigante' which was way too windy. Here it was nice and quiet. The next morning a couple of buses filled with soldiers passed by. Make sure to take a look at the memorial and all the collected possessions from the site that are on display. There are toilets at the memorial site but they were closed as we were here.
