There are seven campgrounds on this road from Pilar. The road is paved. It's $7/night but you can get 50% with NP annual pass if you are a senior. We stayed at the second campground from Pilar. It has showers for $1 for 4 minutes and 25¢/min after that. No need to be staying at the campground to use showers. Also free drinking water available.
*Showers closed in winter.

this is definitely the nicest of the campgrounds in Orilla Verde recreation area nestled next to the Rio Grande. river access, heated bathrooms, flush toilets and paid showers (bring your quarters!) these are BLM campgrounds and V cheap $7/day or $15 for four pull-thru RV spots with electric+water hookups. the other spots have parking to fit a van (e.g. my high roof, extended length Ford transit) they are all FC/FS, no reservations. never had appeared full when I've visited in the spring and fall. rafting tours often pick up here and use the group site at the end. there tends to be a fair amount of day use from Taos as well. no service (T-Mobile)
Report Check-InOnly half price with NP pass if you are a senior.
Popped by to see if they had a shower for us, not open at the moment (looked under construction). Also tried to get campground hosts attention by calling out, and saw them ignoring us. Not the best interaction (ie. none at all).
Report Check-InStayed here for 3 days and loved it. no cell reception as it's in a canyon next to the Rio Grande River. 1/2 price with NP pass. Rv spots $15, Camping spots $7.00. we stayed in #1 camp spot for $3.50 a night. Rv spots have elec and water. camping sites are primitive with water only. lovely restroom with showers and some pit toilets as well. Definitely would stay again. 20 min drive to Toas, NM.
Report Check-Inthis one is the best of the campgrounds on the road I'd say because it has good shade trees and shade structures. it was almost full on a Sunday in may but a few spaces left. the showers are still closed, a covid thing I think. there is no cellular service throughout the river canyon. I chose to sleep up the road on top of the rim so I could get access. bighorns this morning!
