Kenya
Very nice place. Old British-Kenyan run. Richard is a great source of information about this area, including Lake Turkana and Kenya in general, since he was born here. Recommended for a relaxing and comfortable stay. Sheltered scullery (sinks and counter space), but not a full kitchen. Also has gazebo (sheltered reading hut) and a more open sheltered sitting area.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Lovely campsite well worth a stay. Richard, the owner is a font of information. Has all the amenities for camping. 4/5*
Report Check-InWe were a bit stuck about our travel destinations and have the idea to go to lake turkana but we’re not sure because of the isolated part of the country. We discussed with Richard all the options (we go to the lake turkana) also after that destination which was very very very helpful. He knows a lot of camp sites and owners. As we did not see many reviews on IOverlander we detected in his visitors book quit a few people are visiting this place (we, traveling with rooftop tent) were today the only one. Very glad we did a night here!

Report Check-InRichard is a lovely chap. He is a white Kenyan. His family have lived in Kenya for 4 generations. The garden is beautiful and if you are lucky, like we were, you will get to see black and white colobus monkeys!
Report Check-InBarnley’s is a very relaxing place to stay. We had colobus monkeys roosting near us in the evening which was great.
There is unfortunately a google maps and maps.me fail for directions to the property. The turn off is well sign-posted a few metres off the road on the right coming from Eldoret. Only follow the Barnley’s signs.
GPS coordinates which take you to the final campsite directions sign are as follows
1°10'36.7"N 35°06'26.5"E
Lovely green campsite. Nothing to go out of your way for, but quite relaxing. Richard has a lot of information about the area.
Ablutions weren’t very clean, but it all worked.
Nice green lawn for every type of camping.
Nice old kenyan owner was very welcoming. 800 shillings pp. camping per night. Nice facilities. Big rig friendly. Hot water and cold beers. Recommended!
Report Check-InWe was the first Overlander since 6 months. Still, everything is clean, well kept and well maintained. Can highly recommend the place.
Report Check-InNow 800Ksh pppn, but Richard, our host, generously gave us a 10% discount for our longer stay. The ablutions are clean and well maintained, as are the grounds in general. The flower garden and spacious (flat) camping area are surrounded by beautiful, mature trees. The campsite is on a nicely mown lawn—well, the owners have British heritage ;-) We enjoyed a good home-cooked meal with Richard and his charming and delightful mother. We recommend Barnley’s for anyone seeking a relaxing stay, and especially for those who are planning on going further north (Lake Turkana) since Richard, born in Kenya, has intimate knowledge that can help you with your journey. Btw, hwy A1 is in very good condition (going north ) through Marich Pass up to near Kainuk.
Report Check-InVery nice secluded camping spot with a banda and a fire place just off the main road near the old english farm house, but still nice and quiet. The staff are very friendly and forthcoming. Hot showers, and very good home cooked meals and breakfast can be ordered. Space for overlanders with rooftop tents. They also offer tented accommodation. Perfect if you are planning to cross the border to Uganda via the Suam border post to Sipi Falls (careful, only passable when it's not raining on the Mount Elgon escarpment!)
600 KSH pppn camping.
