Description

Trailhead for laguna 69. No parking here. It's 3hrs up and 2.5hrs down to the lower parking lot.
Open and gorgeous! Moderate-Difficult hike if you’re acclimatized. A small private van arrived at 8am and a large tour bus arrived at 9am. My tracker reported 9 miles in and out & roughly 2400 elevation gain. It took us 4 hrs round trip. The first section of the hike is a relatively flat valley, then there are two ascents before the Laguna. These ascents are separated by another flat valley. We had a really lovely time. There were streams running over the well marked path throughout the trek, so I’d recommend hiking boots!

We stayed for one night at the Yuraccorral Camping and started the hike from there. It took us 3 hours up and 2.5 hours down. We started at 7 am so we had the Laguna around 30 minutes for us alone. Would recommend a early start because of the big amount of visitors and the heath you get when you start later.

We parked at the camping as advised by the ranger. If you start the hike at 7:00 you’ll reach the Laguna before all the guided tours. From the parking it took us 18km and 720 high meters in total (2h45 up / 2h down).
One of the most beautiful hikes we have done so far in South America as the landscape and the laguna are absolutely amazing!

The road to get here was in a bad condition with a lot of potholes and bumps but doable for us in a 2wd van - just takes more than the double the time we estimated.

One of the most beautiful hikes we made with our 2 children 8 and 10 years old. You have to count the whole day. She's really worth it

There are many cars that park here but do yourself a favor and park below at the other spot on iOverlander. We parked outside of the park entrance and hiked up starting at 8:30 and only saw maybe 15 people. On the way down we counted over 400 people hiking up so we recommend hiking early in the morning to avoid sharing the trail with literally hundreds of other people. Really enjoyable hike and the lake is unbelievable.

No longer possible to park on the road, guards only let you park for the hike at the lower parking lot about 1.4km away

Didn't feel like this is a good place to park overnight. A local driver told us it wasn't safe that trucks might crash into us. Really not a parking lot, just a wide turn in the road.

We heard that it happens sometimes here that somebody comes and brakes the car windows to steal your stuff, so it's recommended to go by bus or taxi up there or take someone with you who guards the car. E. G. For a tip only (10-20 sol) we could have taken a local guy from the park entrance with us but we didn't go to the lagoon.

We arrived here at 16h15 when the only bus parked here full of tourist left about 10 minutes later, waiting for last trekkers. You might need something to level up your rig. Free. No toilets. The view... Is insane!
