Amazing State Park, beautiful. There are a few campgrounds in the park. Must reserve. Gate closed at night (think 8pm). Gate opens at 7am. Only way to get gate code is by reservation. Good day area too. Clean restrooms with showers. Lots of hiking, biking, horse trails.

Incredible state park. Absolutely worth the visit. I didn't get a formal campsite (they were all booked) so I stayed at the Sagebrush day use area, in the extended parking lot area.

Beautiful canyon with lots of cool hikes and climbing. Extremely hot however but not unmanageable. The creek is nice. We got there at sunset and found an open site at one of the official campgrounds. Didn’t have to pay

Report Check-In

There are several campgrounds and when I got here around 5 or 6pm on a Sunday evening they were all fully booked. I heard some folks just stealth camp at different pullouts and picnic areas. One of the camp hosts said since the group site was empty it was probably a safe bet to camp there so that’s where I’m at! He did mention that park officials do sometimes make rounds and kick people out so it’s a gamble but the park is beautiful and I think ill just chance it for the night considering I’m just sleeping in the back of my car.

Stayed in Fortress Cliffs (basic) and Mesquite (electric/water) campground. Spacious but not much blocking between campsites. Sheltered table and fire box. Showers at Mesquite. AT&T LTE good, no Verizon. Love it here. Hiking the weekend

Report Check-In

Very large state park with all kinds of camping and hiking and mountain biking. Beautiful scenery throughout, the sunsets and sunrises are amazing. No service on Verizon below the rim. Would love to stay longer.

Report Check-In

Beautiful scenery and large campsites. Bathhouses are in need of repair, and a lot of dog poop from inconsiderate campers left behind. Site 92 in Mesquite is a beautiful site, with an elevated covered patio and bench surrounded by rocks. Best one in Mesquite. Tons of hikes and mountain bike trails. You’d need more than a week to explore them all.

This is definitely a special place. The canyon is beautiful- I was just going to stay for lunch and press on, but one look and I changed plans, stayed the night. I stayed at the Fortress Cliff section, site 41. The namesake cliff is spectacular and makes for a dramatic sunset at camp. There are picnic tables, sun shelters. portable toilets at this section but the park has many very good facilities. No RV services at this section, so nobody was there. If you can, bring mountain bikes, tons of trails! The sound of the coyotes the next morning is a highlight.

Tranquility!
$20 a night in a cabin built in 1924, ended up sleeping in car- cabin was very dusty.

Fire ban in place- no pits or grills utilized. Very clean showers and bathrooms within 100 ft, reservations needed- due to popularity.
Must see canyon, Grand Canyon like topography/ in Texas!

Country store / with gas open most days 9-4p Great burgers!

Bird watching area around back.

Hot, bring water & bug spray.

Javalena pigs, mountain goats, deer, snakes and very large cacti - on hiking trails which are very narrow- dogs will have difficulty walking safely

- bring first aide kit just in case.

Walking sticks good idea too.

Wild coyotes chased a group of young men the day I stayed, you can hear them calling all around you. Beautiful campground or rustic retreat, they have something for everyone. The drive at the visitor center is pull through but you have to go down/up a steep grade. Warning signs related to flooding include up to a 5' marker. if it floods, you can't get out and don't camp in a low area... You will share your camp with cows and coyotes, seems about right. There is handicapped accessible facilities. Camping is a bit pricey.

HOT!!!! Beautiful camping but at the end of May it didn't cool off until after 9pm - felt like we had a hairdryer blowing at us all day. But totally worth it to wake up at sunrise and do a hike or mt bike ride <<< REALLY FUN RIDING!! We selected a primitive site for our campervan since we are self-contained, it was cheaper and all that was left. LOTS of sites that are very easy to park in and some that were a bit tricky but more private feeling = site 76. You can use the showers/bathrooms at the other campgrounds nearby and they have a snowcone stand at the base of the Lighthouse trail. Well worth a visit to this fantastic park - but maybe Spring, Fall, Winter is best!

Paid 16$ (price increased) for the most basic campground without toilets, plus 5$pP entrance fee. It's a pretty area but not too impressive. Very hot in the day and cold at night. Lots of flies, coyotes, and some rattle snakes.
