Description

Very unfriendly Police checkpoint. Locals can pass, foreigners have to show papers. Road is blocked with a rope. You can take the roads through town and behind this stop. Use google maps and follow your nose through to the highway a good distance past this road. Tracks are a little rough but you should be fine.

Report Check-In

Corruption as usual in Bolivia. We were asked to pull over, stamped a previous toll ticket and asked for 10 bol. I said we don’t have 10 bol. He said go to the car and get them. I said again: I don’t have money. And he let us go. So annoying! This is all over Bolívia, over and over again! But please, don’t give in. No bribes!

Report Check-In

We’ve also avoided this police checkpoint in an easy way. Just as senor sepp says. Maps.me doesn’t know the way though.
Coming from the peruvian border turn left after the gas-station. Drive towards the terminal and there you take just before a small concrete bridge the right dirt-road. Drive towards the grey door and turn to the left. Follow the dirt-road up and soon you will be at the carretera to la Paz again! Good luck!

Report Check-In

There is a really easy and fast detour. When coming from the peruvian border, just take a right at the small church with a small square in front (dirt road). The turnoff is before the Gas Station in Copacabana. Just follow the easy dirt road for about 1km (up and down the small hill). No height restriction and easy road.
We make another point on iOverlander for entry and exit point.
LETS STOP BRIBERY TOGETHER :)

Report Check-In

I read some of the comments before so at the border I asked if I needed anything from the police, they said NO.

Police at checkpoint asked me to pull over for my stamp. Wanted to see my paperwork, said I didn't have the stamp. I explained to him the stamp from customs on the front is all I needed. Then he asked me to go ahead. When I asked if I was missing anything or if there was a problems he said No.

Seems like a police bluff to get some money.

Report Check-In

Had to show int. driver license and TIP. Police charged 5 Bol for Stamp and other guy 5 Bol again for getting in town. Locals came in and payed too, but i think a bit less.

Police man asked me to come in to stamp TIP and pay 5Bs. Locals stopped and came in to pay too.

Report Check-In

We had to pay 10bob to pass. Not sure it was not bribery. I ask for a receipt and get 2 tickets of 5bob each.

Report Check-In

We saw the rope, but it was down on the ground and nobody there to check papers. We drove by at 12.30, perhaps lunch break?

Report Check-In

Not too sure if it was there today. A rider I met at the border coming the other way said it was clear. I still went through the town. I used Maps.me and followed the track to the Mirrador point. Was a fun track to ride actually. Might be a little too much fun if you're in a mobile mansion. No problems on the road all the way to La Paz.

Report Check-In

No checkpoint when we drove past (after 6:00 pm). You can also take an other way to escape

Report Check-In

Everyone (Foreigners as well as locals) had to pay 7 Bs coming from La Paz. He wants to see the Ticket you got at La Paz and our documents, otherwise it should have cost 10 Bs. Ok, he wasn't friendly, but who cares.

Report Check-In

Stop paying bribes. We used Maps.me and took the roads behind this stop. They are rough dirt roads but you can follow them along and come back out on the highway a good distance after this check point. If people stopped paying cops bribes it wouldn't be an issue.
