Description

Wild camping under a lonely tree in the middle of the desert. Directly on the road to the salt sea 'laguna cejar' but quiet in the evening and at night. The tree is big and fascinating and the view of the Vulcanos is very nice. No infrastructure.

we spend a quiet and beautiful night, a little windy in the evening. the shadow helps to keep fresh.

Report Check-In

Nice place, we only stayed here for cooking (windy at 3pm!). There is 4g signal (entel) if you climb 2m high on the tree.

Report Check-In

Just had a great night rest here, we were the only one. No tours or cars in the morning, and perfect shade because of the tree. We didn’t want to take a risk to park our 2wd underneath the tree because of the sand but perfect place to spend the night!

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

we camp with our tente for 2 peoples, it's flat but the ground is hard but confortable.. there was 2 campervan. vert quiet place.

Report Check-In

We stay here 2 nights. The place is very quiet.
We met there very nice people.
The spirit of van lifers is here !
The ground is flat. Not a lot of shadow but the night you have many space to look the stars.

Report Check-In

amazing place to sleep if you don't find a hostel or camp ground in San Pedro de atacama, remote place, you can shelter your tent with the tree and your car, only 2 vans we can hear in the night, we where alone all the time, grate place to view the stars. one night you have to live the experience of sleeping in the middle of the desert.

Report Check-In

Spent a very calm night here. Super quiet, pretty starry sky. We didn’t hear the bees but there are many butterflies at the moment. Some toilet paper among the bushes, please don’t just leave your toilet paper like this.

Report Check-In

Spend a night here. Super quiet and no tour busses. Little clouded our night unfortunately. During the day a lot of bees in the tree. We parked a little bit away from the tree. But a super nice sunset and its just cool to camp in the dessert.

Report Check-In

Great spot. We were alone - except for the tour van who came watching to the stars from 9.30 to 10.30 PM.

Report Check-In

Very good spot, recommanded by the Laguna Cejar’s guardian. We were looking for a spot next to the Laguna and the guy from the parking indicated us this place. It’s along a dirt road, so some cars can be heard. The sunset on the mountains and volcanoes are stunning!

Report Check-In

Wonderful place, we stayed 2 nights. Between 5.30 and 6 pm lots of tourist car stop to watch the sunset together with their clients but it didn’t bother us

Report Check-In

Very nice spot close to the road but you are hidden by a tree and there is almost no car passing by. Beautiful view on the volcano. We felt very good

Report Check-In

Pretty popular and about 6-8 cars / vans pass per hour (Saturday). If we knew it was such high traffic we would have gone elsewhere

Report Check-In

Really nice place, convenient to visit the different sight on the salar and great view of the volcanoes around. Just be careful when rain sets in. Some parts of the site are flooded within minutes and we suddenly stood in 20cm deep water. In the morning we only managed to get out thanks to 4x4 and diff lock.

Report Check-In

Great tip, thanks for putting it here! Quiet, great sunrise, please take your litter and bury your human waste!!

Report Check-In

Perfect quiet spot, we were on our own. A few tour buses & cars but nothing from 8.30 pm to 7.30 am. One small tour bus stopped for a snack at sunset but only stayed for 30 min. Only downside: Lots of toilet paper behind the bush. Please dig a hole or take it with you.

Report Check-In

Very nice location! We spent one night in this spot and it was really worthy. The tree is no longer a lonely tree, since there are few ones growing and some bushes around. It is flat, close to the road and the sunset, milky way and sunrise are perfectly seen from this point.

Report Check-In

Great spot. Arrived after dark, so check for soft sand before pulling in. Very quiet and cool once sun went down. Listen for the bees in the morning!

Report Check-In

Nice spot, felt safe, no facilities. Shade from tree, amazing sunset! Was quiet when we were there, just a few cars drove by. Good for 2wd.

Report Check-In

We loved this spot! So nice this tree alone in the desert. We were there and 3 others cars arrived to spend the night. Guess it is getting popular.

Report Check-In

Great spot, quiet and a stargazers dream

Report Check-In

Really nice spot, we spent a quiet night. The view on the volcanoes is amazing. We also saw a bus of tourists coming for sunset but they left right after it. A bit of 3G with Entel.

Report Check-In

Nice spot, we were all alone (some bikers stopped by), but suddenly, right before sunset, 3 bus of tourists stopped here to eat and watch the sunset. They stayed an hour or so. then left, and we were alone again. Lots of vehicles on the road though. We didn't have any problem with our 2wd van.

Report Check-In

it's s so sunny here. we had to stop and found shade. this place is famous for that 😉

Report Check-In

Nice place - as described, just the best. The stars are wonderful! We were staying there for one night with a 2wd and nobody disturbed us.
Carefully for allergic people: there is a nest of bees in the tree. We didn't had any problems but better to know.

Report Check-In

we slept there one night. it was very quiet.

next day, a women (president of indigen people) adviced us to leave this place, because it is in the reserva national flamenco. we decided to go to another ioverlander location, "el bosque".

after one night there, a bus came to this place. he told us that this is private property and we are not allowed to camp here. we insisted. he called his boss, the president of indigen people. after long discussions, she allwed us to stay another night at "el bosque".

This spot is great. Thank you!
Very close to the road but we had a quiet night. Sky is great!

Report Check-In

Great place to overnight or have lunch time in a big shade. At night, the sky is wonderfull!!! Around 18h/20h, it's a little noisy because the tourism vans. But later, it's so
quiet! In the morning, some colors bikers pass. Amazing view.

Report Check-In

Lovely overnight spot at the only tree on the salar ;-) Good to have some shade. most trafic in the evening, the quiet.

Report Check-In

We had a fine night here. A little windy (we're in a 4Runner with rooftop tent) but it died down around 10.30pm. We experienced a little more road traffic than described below but at pretty low levels. Didn't end until about 9.45 pm and started again about 6am. But not a real problem, only noteworthy because of sights proximity to the road. As others said beautiful night sky and sunset.

Report Check-In

We came back here for a second night and added a geo-cache. Happy treasure hunting! 🤓

Report Check-In

Beautiful place to spend the night! Gorgeous sunset and sunrise view. After the traffic for the laguna passed we didn't see another car until 9:00 the next morning.

Report Check-In

Excellent place to overnight or just watch the sun go down on the mountains behind you. There is a lot of place in the near surroundings at the tree as it is all open field. Hard and dry underground so accesible for 2WD. We stayed here for two nights and the stars were very nice.

Report Check-In

Beautiful place! We stayed here for two days. Blue sky and stunt night. Enjoy it is free.

Report Check-In

Great place to overnight. Gorgeous sunset, and nice views on the surrounding mountains. Between 6 and 6.30 on a small Amanda of tour busses is passing by, before and after that just beautiful silence and loneliness.

Report Check-In

Good quiet spot to watch the stars during the night and take nice pictures. Stayed here with a small van and another couple camped in a tent. No cars passing by till next morning at about 8.30am. It's close to the street and no 4WD needed!

Report Check-In

Great place to camp! Please don't leave any garbage behind. We stayed here 4 days ago and everything was fine. Now there's toilet paper and crap lying around the camp site :(

Report Check-In

A really nice dessert spot but be careful if you have a 2wd, check the weatherforecast, could be tricky to get out if its rainy...

Report Check-In

Very quiet, the earth is sufficiently hard to park without worrying about the next day :) no Entel coverage, but nice spot to enjoy the clear sky! Only 1 vehicle passed by, at around 10am ;)
