Description

Gravel road, many flat spots to choose on side of the road, spend the day and the night here with my campervan, not a single car pass on this road for more than 12hr last night, very calm, no road noise, only birds to wake you up in the morning. You can fill your water tank or dump wasted water at the dumping station few miles from here (see other tag on map). It’s the right place for staring at the stars, no artificial lights around.

Fine for a night but more mosquitoes than I’ve encountered anywhere in this area. Stepped outside for 1 minute and suffered about 80 bites haha, otherwise great spot

Pulled in before the closed gate on Pine Oaks and parked just to the side of the bridge. Little traffic at night. Nice little evening walk aling Pine Oaks. Ranger truck passed by in the morning but didn't stop. Got woken up in the middle of the night by a gator loudly bellowing 2m from my window... No trash, no amenities, good cell service.

Yes it’s on the side of the road but very little traffic. Got a spot on the water with one solid bar of cell range . So happy here. Very peaceful especially after spending a week in the crazy business of Naples .

Had a good night :) Super quiet, first car drove by at 9:30 in the morning as we were leaving. Loved listening to the insects and frogs as we fell a sleep.

As stated in other reviews, this gravel road has many grassy areas to pull off into.

Preferred to drive the 15 minutes into Everglades City to next available marked spot on map.

This was a great avoiding the big campgrounds inpeak season. Great for visiting Fakahatchee.

The gravel road that goes from 41 to the SWAMP Center is Birdon Road. Just south of SWAMP there is a much smaller gravel road (not on the park map but on Google Maps) with a sign saying Pine Oaks Rd. We spent 3 nights there, just before the gate. Ample for our minivan camper but I am not sure I'd try this road in an RV. Most importantly because it is a long narrow road with only 1 spot to turn around. Each day we were here, someone drove down the road out of curiosity and we had to do a dance of vehicles around so they could turn around and leave.

We also saw people parked overnight on Birdon Road, and there is definitely fishing in the canal along Birdon. No one seems to be patrolling but we did see someone in a ranger uniform at a house a little further south on Birdon.

The dump station on 41 also has a port-a-john by the hunter check-in.

Wild Camping, parked along road near Swamp Education Center. Many cars driving by at night. Level area. Looks like campers have been here before, leaving an old sock and other trash in the trees along the road. Evidence of fire pit built in the rocks beside the road.

Report Check-In

As described! Very calm place. Spend a night there without problem. Perfect stars watching sky.

Flat gravel road with no distinct pullouts. Several cars passed during the day but quiet overnight. Park ranger drove by early last night and didn’t say anything to us. Another mid-sized RV parked nearby. Close to visitor center if access to bathrooms is needed.

This gravel road has really wide grass shoulders, so you just pull off the road a few miles up. Very quite and not one car drove past during the night. Only noise you will here are birds and animals. We saw a couple of others camping along the road. This spot was also recommended by a ranger.

Stayed 1 mile up 841 not quite to this stop. Arrived late after attending the star program at Welcome center. We also stayed 2 nights up the 839... a few cars/trucks went by and alot of dust. Arrived late and left early. Got a backcountry use permit from the visitor center, very easy. Gave it a 4 due to the dust.
